Can I ask for some low carb lunch ideas please?

Not following a low carb diet just got a few extra pounds I’d like to shift and I am a carb and cheese fiend!

Especially when it’s colder my go to lunches to take to work are things like jacket potatoes, pasta etc. I’m a pescatarian so now meaty suggestions please for me!

Any ideas for relatively low carb lunches to take to work please?

How about omelette? You can make it in the microwave in a mug or container if you don't have access to a hob. I would use at least two eggs and add in cheese and veggies.

Boredofthecommute · 21/10/2018 20:03

Microwave would work, but I think I’d be too tempted to stuff it with cheese!

Deli counter chicken breast, or cooked fish, with a bag of veg. I get the ones from tesco that you put in the microwave for a few minutes.

Filing and healthy.

Leftovers from the night before? I have stirfry without the noodles. Chicken, loads of veg and a fajita seasoning is my favourite. You could do it with steak or pork too?

Pandasarecute · 21/10/2018 20:14

I like chorizo sausage and kale. Fry the sausage (it releases its own oil) then add the kale. I do this at night then zap it in the microwave at work.

For lunches I do

  • soup
  • crudités and a dip like homemade guacamole or hummous
  • Olives, manchego with chilli, sun dried tomatoes, salami.
  • Greek salad with feta, watermelon, tomatoes, olives, cucumber and onion.
Then a satsuma or Greek yoghurt with passion fruit or berries.

Homemade soup
Massive ftesh fruit salad
Beetroot hoummos without chickpeas, lots of veg sticks
Kippers in microwave
Crustless quiche, salad

thenightsky · 21/10/2018 20:18

A pack of peppery hot salmon flakes from Tesco tossed into lettuce, rocket, cucumber etc and a big slop of mayo.

flowerpot1000000 · 21/10/2018 20:18

Or whole butternut squash roasted

LanaLily11 · 21/10/2018 20:20

What about rice cakes topped with cottage cheese, rocket, prawns?

Coldhandscoldheart · 21/10/2018 20:21

Kippers in the microwave at work!!?!? Way to win friends & influence people! 😂
Boiled eggs, cold, no toast. Lots of salad and vegetables. Same thing, but a tin of fish (cold!) or a bit of chicken or tofu or sliced roast beef or leftover roast meat?

Coldhandscoldheart · 21/10/2018 20:24

Sorry, I missed pescatarian. Okay, tofu, eggs, prawns, mussels, quorn, wheat protein, a lump of mozzarella, salmon.

Coldhandscoldheart · 21/10/2018 20:24

Or thick lentil soup.

Babybearsporij · 21/10/2018 20:25

I liked green salad with chicken thighs / tuna / salmon and mustard mayo when I was bootcamping.

Disneydilemma · 21/10/2018 20:27

Kippers in the work microwave?!!
Soup
Salad & tuna or mackerel or prawns
Hard boiled eggs
Full fat yogurt and nuts

Boredofthecommute · 21/10/2018 20:31

Thanks for the suggestions so far, not sure on kippers at work though Hmm open plan office!

Warm suggestions welcome as the weather is taking a turn!

Lots of lunch ideas here

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 21/10/2018 20:48

Love how OP says she's pescatarian so people tell her about chicken and sausage...

Omelette or broccoli and stilton soup

TheBubGrower · 21/10/2018 20:54

Omelette with feta cheese and spinach.
Big bowl of veggie soup.
Big bowl of precooked green veggies warmed in the microwave then topped with tinned mackerel in tomato sauce.
Courgetty with pasta sauce.
Cauliflower rice with butternut squash curry.

diamantegal · 21/10/2018 21:18

I like this with a bit of salad - perfectly tasty cold and will last several days.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 21/10/2018 21:32

If you're truly wanting low carb, lentils, hummus, rice cakes and butternut squash wouldn't be suitable.

Boredofthecommute · 21/10/2018 21:40

Ooh tinned mackerel, haven’t had that for years!
