Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 21/10/2018 19:01

I’m due to have one fitted on Thursday and I’m terrified! I don’t know why, Iv had one before and it was fine but that was 8 years ago. Il

Mine was fitted when I wasn’t on my period

In fact the doctor insisted i come in two weeks after my period finished

dementedpixie · 21/10/2018 20:00

I was on the mini pill before I got mine and never had any periods so couldn't have got it fitted during one

MissWimpyDimple · 21/10/2018 20:02

I had two attempts with mine. Second time was no problem at all and I wasn't on my period or anywhere near. It literally didn't hurt at all.

BrokenMachine · 21/10/2018 20:49

I didn’t even have periods at the time as I was breastfeeding, bit crappy but it was okay, just took paracetamol before tondull the pain a bit :)

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 22/10/2018 13:25

Thank you all! I’m absolutely terrified lol x

Do they use a clamp on the cervix? That’s what I’m worried about! I had some cells burnt off a few years ago and it was the most painful thing Iv ever been through and Iv given birth twice and a section.

Yes they do...I won’t lie, it hurt a hell of a lot

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 22/10/2018 13:37

I’ve had coils for fifteen years and no periods in that time. Not going to lie to you, having them put in is horrendous, especially if they’ve just taken one out. But it’s not insurmountable and other than cramping it’s all over very quickly. And it’s worth it for no contraception worries and if you’re lucky, no periods either.

papayasareyum · 22/10/2018 13:40

are you going to a family planning or sexual health clinic? If you are, they can give you a local anesthetistic which will make insertion much much easier and painless. I’ve had coil insertion with and without local anesthetic and I’d never have it without now.

Her0utdoors · 22/10/2018 13:44

I had mine fitted a week before my period, it was actually not as bad as I feared. I can't say I relaxed when the Dr told me about the increased risk of uterine perforation because my son breastfeeds... it was pinchy, but by the time I had driven home any cramping had stopped and zero discomfort since.

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 22/10/2018 17:28

Well now I’m more shitting it lol

I’m going to the doctors. The dr who is fitting it specialises in gynaecology so fingers crossed!

Take painkillers beforehand. The worst bit was when they measure the depth of the womb which was a bit of a weird rummaging feeling rather than painful. I had a few cramps after but went to the supermarket before going home so couldn't have been that bad

happypotamus · 22/10/2018 17:58

I had my first coil a couple of months ago. I took paracetamol beforehand as recommended and they used a local anaesthetic of some sort, and it wasn't horrendous. It certainly wasn't pain free but it was a lot less painful than giving birth (wished I could have had gas and air for it though!). I wasn't on my period at the time, in fact when I booked it they went to great lengths to find a date that was at the right time in my cycle and on a day when I wasn't at work and wouldn't have a child with me.

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 24/10/2018 15:29

Going to get it fitted tomorrow. I’m current ovulating and suffering with really bad period type pains. Do you think it will be ok?

You’ll be fine! I had an anesthetic on my cervix as I haven’t given birth, and it was uncomfortable but completely manageable. You’ll have some cramping afterwards but just get some chocolate and wine and chill on the sofa.

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 25/10/2018 09:55

Ekkk it’s in an hour and I’m so anxous!! Iv taken tablets for pAin so fingers crossed

I've had three and wasn't on my period when any of them were fitted. It was fine. Hope it's in now and you're ok, op Flowers Wine Cake

DevilThatWearsPrada · 25/10/2018 11:06

Hope it went ok? I found my fitting ok expect for a few seconds of scratchy pain. The rest of the day I was toooo tired to do much & felt like I was hit by a truck 😕. Fine next day onwards.

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 25/10/2018 11:30

It went okay, the stretchy pain hurt a lot!! And the feeling of the tube in and out felt horrible but it’s in! I have stomach ache but I’m so glad it’s done

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 25/10/2018 17:58

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 26/10/2018 01:39
