Holiday let annoyances

Recently stayed in a large holiday let with a group of friends - mix of women and men. There were four bathrooms but fewer than 4 whole rolls of loo paper and no spares in any cupboard. We were given two dishwasher tablets for a four day stay. There was a washing machine but only two detergent tablets provided. I get that it is expensive to run one of these places, but the rationing of these things was annoying. We had to ask for more loo roll, which was begrudgingly provided - the owners lived next door.

We take these things with us. No biggie.

Fine - my expectations are different from the majority on here. Yes, one of my friends asked for more loo roll and yes, it was miles from the nearest shop!

Your expectations are not different from mine OP, though I do take bits with me just in case.

wowfudge · 21/10/2018 10:09

And yes, for ten people staying for four days I would expect to put the dishwasher inore than twice.

Place we are just back from uses eco products and i did have to ask for a bit more washing up liquid they dropped some off no problem but if they didn't state they use this particular stuff I would have taken my own.

I always think it's a bonus if there are any toilet rolls, etc and take my own with me.

weebarra · 21/10/2018 10:16

I would expect basic supplies but to go out and buy / have already brought our own.
We're just back from a big family holiday (15 people) and it was the lack of small things which annoyed us - like a sharp knife or soup blender, or decent potato peeler. We are a massively foodie family though and love to cook.
My PILs had a holiday let and before they started letting, asked us to stay to check everything. The only thing missing was a mortar and pestle!

I always take that kind of stuff. People are funny - I can only use Fairy washing up liquid for eg - and I’d definitely take loo rolls.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 21/10/2018 10:24

I would expect one dishwasher tablet per day of booking. Leaving one or two is incredibly stingy. Most places we stay provide enough loo roll for the stay too. If there's a washing machine, I'd expect to find some washing powder or liquid.

My bugbear are cleaners who clear everything out of cupboards after each visit - so you have to buy salt, oil, washing up liquid etc every visit.

MrsJayy · 21/10/2018 10:26

Yeah the dishwasher tablets are stingy give the op that

Massive annoyance with a holiday cottage we rented in Devon a few years ago. The owner left a lot of food in the cupboards, bad enough, but with a note saying" whilst we could have an initial couple of tea bags, spoonful or two of coffee if we hadn't brought our own supplies with us, once we had bought our food, could we not touch theirs"Shock. I complained to the agents, with the comment, "this would be okay if they were letting to friends and family on "mates rates", but it wasn't marketed like that and for the rate we were paying, the owners leaving quite a lot of their personal effects in situ wasn't acceptable". It also wasn't as clean as it should have been either.

YANBU OP. I would definitely expect dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid. Possibly not washing detergent because people are funny about switching and about skin sensitivity etc. Hmm at the poster who thought that 4 rolls in 4 days is excessive - we're not exactly profligate with toilet roll, but we get through a roll and a bit a day between 6 of us. (Bizarrely this quantity remains static regardless of somebody being away, having guests, etc. What's that about?!)
