So as the title says, I'm expecting to receive around £5K.

So what to use it on....or not??

No debts or mortgage to pay off.

Save! (Unless you have huge savings already.)

HollowTalk · 20/10/2018 22:58

What's your financial situation like otherwise? Do you have everything you want or is there something you'd really love?

moredoll · 20/10/2018 23:00

Bit of Botox and a bit of a holiday or something nice for the house, some premium bonds.

MunkeeBum · 20/10/2018 23:03

Decorating.
Or a holiday.
Get Xmas completely sorted.
Laser eye surgery.

Any of those.

InvisibleToEveryone · 20/10/2018 23:11

Ohh, laser eye surgery.
Now there's an idea. I'm fairly blind!!

I don't know what I want tbh, hence this thread.
I'm horrendous to buy for for birthdays and Christmas.

Carpet for the front room and probably DC bedroom need replacing, so that's at a guess a grand ish?

Holiday

Fanjita1 · 20/10/2018 23:17

Save half. Spend half (with pleasure).

DerelictWreck · 20/10/2018 23:19

Bit of Botox

DONT do this! New research published today shows that botox reduces orgasms!

Neshoma · 21/10/2018 05:19

Pension or mortgage.

DownUdderer · 21/10/2018 06:03

Id be buying new clothes and getting a haircut and pedicure. Then maybe new curtains or blinds. Then I’d buy some big houseplants and succulents. I’d get some new yarn and fabric and paints! I’d get a rug for the front room!!!

AwkwardSquad · 21/10/2018 06:12

I’d use it on a holiday to Iceland. If you don’t know what to spend the money on, OP, save it until the right opportunity presents itself, rather than wasting it on stuff that you’re not really bothered about. £5k is a nice little sum.

BikeRunSki · 21/10/2018 06:16

Holiday!

Humphriescushion · 21/10/2018 06:27

Humphriescushion · 21/10/2018 06:30

ShimmerAndShite · 21/10/2018 09:16

Definitely laser eye surgery! I went for a consultation yesterday and now trying to work out if we can justify the expense.

TheDoctorDances · 21/10/2018 09:19

Nice big log burning fire. Holiday.

Birdsgottafly · 21/10/2018 09:21

If stuff needs doing in the house, then do that and have a nice holiday.

The rest I would save, but I need a new bathroom so it would all be spent.

TroysMammy · 21/10/2018 09:27

I don't have a mortgage or debts either so I would put it in a savings account until I want to use it for something.

icebearforpresident · 21/10/2018 09:36

£1000 as an over payment on the mortgage
£1000 towards credit cards
£1000 into savings

Remaining 2k on a family holiday and some other fun stuff

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/10/2018 10:17

I've just read that laser eye surgery doesn't last very long if you have very poor vision on the waste of money thread.

Assuming you have savings, I'd go with carpets and a holiday.

SerendipityFelix · 21/10/2018 10:28

I vote laser eye surgery - I had it this year £4.5k, most terrifying thing I’ve done (I am very very squeamish about eyes, was hopeless at contacts) but is 110% worth it, even if I do need glasses again in old age, it’s amazing to have proper functioning eyes now.

EggysMom · 21/10/2018 10:30

£1k on necessities (carpets etc)
£1k on extravagance (holiday?)
£3k savings

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 21/10/2018 10:32

I’d spend some of it on a holiday and the rest in savings.

My mum had similar and she bought a nice ring to remember the person who left her the money (inheritance)

InvisibleToEveryone · 21/10/2018 10:38

Yeah thinking I'm going to have to go boring and go with getting carpets done before anything else.
Which will be a nightmare...where do you put all the furniture Confused . Last time it was an empty room!

Some will be saved definitely.
