Small Claims Court Hearing Fees

Shamelessly posting for traffic, sorry!

Has anyone gone to the small claims court recently? I think some rules changed in the last few years and am struggling to get much from Google.

I have to file papers by Monday which state whether I agree to mediation etc. The defendant has defended the claim. I've paid £35 so far, and I am worried that 1) I could have to pay an awful lot more if they won't do mediation/agree to anything and 2) that I can't decide to pull out at a later date, and that if I send these papers I'm in some way contracted to continue and can't pull out if it will go to court.

I've had a horrid week so forgot about these papers and don't know anyone who has done this before. The claim is under £300.

Has anyone got any experience of this that they can share?

We claimed through the small claims court a few years ago. It was all, done online, and we didn’t actually see a real, live court at all.

Have you looked at this?

If you do pay extra and you win, then the opposing party pays all court fees (if I remember correctly).
