Hallowe'en Decorations outside a house - what is NOT acceptable?

Now don't say "None of them are acceptable" I am doing decorations , I do every year.

My "thing" is I make as many as I can or I buy a few bits and work round that.

I've done gravestones ( cereal boxes glued/stapled together , painted with left over paint and covered in garden ivy)

I've done Hallowe'en trees )painted twigs with things hung on)

Pumpkins (of course)

I wouldn't do clowns or zombies, or some of the more horrific or gory characters (like Jason or Freddy Kruger) or those "ChopShop" scenes.

But I really want to do Dolls with vampire teeth ...........is that a "No".
It is pretty much young children who ToT , we don't get over the age of 7-8.

Would you avoid a house that looked a bit "GoreFest"?

For that age group? Yes I'd avoid, I would assume it was decorated for an adult's(or teenager's) party. Might give some children nightmares. Stick to pumpkins!

Your decorations sound awesome, BTW.

I think we're on the same wavelength Halloween Grin

We do a smoking cauldron with potions and witches brooms, surrounded by a graveyard...... spooky not scary is my motto.

We're on an estate full of younger families so our key demographic is under 10s. Dolls with teeth (as awesome as it sounds) would probably have given me nightmares Halloween Wink, although I considered doing shrunken heads last year but I didn't get around to it.

Sounds great. The dolls with vampire teeth sounds fine to me, (I have a 3 and a 5 year old).

Cut two eye shape holes on the side of a toilet tube and put a glowstick inside then stick in a bush. It'll look like wolf/alien eyes in the dark.

I've done the glo-stick /loo roll eyes when we had a party (they look amazing) but I only have shrubby plants at the back, no plants out the front.

I have one of the smoking cauldrons so that'll come out this year.

The Doll with Teeth idea was from a MN thread (I think some of those creepy dolls started it and someone found it. The doll was an old china head, I'd buy some plastic dolls from charity shops)

I put those plastic hinged vampire teeth into the mouths of the little pumpkins and cocktail sticks for the big ones (layers and layers , they look well fierce !) Halloween Grin

Mexican style skull decorations are very beautiful and popular at the moment.

megletthesecond · 20/10/2018 20:24

Oooo, I might have to make cardboard gravestones.

TheHauntedHouseAteMyBrownie · 20/10/2018 22:48

Have you done wispy sheet ghosts? (A Balloon suspended with muslin/ net draped over it) Big spiders and webs? The grim reaper? (you could do glowstick eyes!)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/10/2018 23:04

Yes I bought light up balloons and draped the bits of hacked up white sheet over with eyes and mouth in Sharpie pen. Tied with clear thread . I;d love to do helium balloons but I don;t know if they'd float enough?

I wrapped a cheapie sindy doll in masking tape and web to 'mumify' it and put in the the middle of the huge spiders web.

One year I had an old wicker trunk that we filled with plastic bones and creepy red lights for eyes , had the skeleton hand just pushing the lid open a bit

Need to plan this year now,,,,, Halloween Grin

We have a big web hanging down the front with a spider in it.

Around the cornet a house has skelotons climbing over the gate across the drive and witches hanging in the trees, all floaty fabrics it looks amazing

Momasita · 20/10/2018 23:52

I strongly dislike gore Halloween.

I'm far more primative Halloween... Bat's, gentle witches cats..., brooms.. Pumpkins... Spiders.. Crows... So much...

The faces on my dc looking at some of the more horrific Halloween stuff on supermarket... Made me avoid it all for ever more..

JosellaPlayton · 21/10/2018 00:04

I’ve seen some seriously gory shit around here. Including one lifesize clown and a house of horrors complete with severed heads and bloodied figures ‘escaping’ from the basement. Giant 6foot+ spiders are also very in this year. This is in the US.
