Should I return laptop to pc world

Dd has had her laptop since June. It is running incredibly slow, it takes 10-15 minutes just to boot up.

It was a bit slow right from the start but it's not a top spec one so maybe that's to be expected, but now it is really difficult to use and feels like huge waste of money.

Are pc world likely to exchange it?

The only thing she has installed on it is roblox and that won't run properly either.

Have you got all the usual security things installed?

Knittedfairies · 20/10/2018 18:32

Perhaps you could take it into their tech support people and see what they have to say before asking for a refund.

BritInUS1 · 20/10/2018 18:32

I suspect the laptop you bought does not have the capacity needed to run Roblox.

You can take it back but I would expect them to send for repair but not an exchange

chipsandpeas · 20/10/2018 18:32

what make and model is the laptop?
some are basic and cant run much

BritInUS1 · 20/10/2018 18:32

Are you sure it doesn't have a virus?

misstblue2 · 20/10/2018 18:33

i doubt they will exchange it probably give it to the know how people to look at it

Bombardier25966 · 20/10/2018 18:33

Very unlikely to get an exchange from Curry's after this length of time, at least not without lots of messing about first. Give them a call and they'll do some fault finding over the phone.

Which laptop is it?

Juicyfrooty · 20/10/2018 18:38

The model is HP - 15-bw551sa.

I don't think it has virus, I'm giving it a good charge at the moment so I can have a good look at it, it takes soooo long to get it to do anything though.

You would not necessarily know if it had a virus. Have you got anti virus software running?

chipsandpeas · 20/10/2018 18:41

back everything up and restore to factory settings and see how it is then
dont install anything extra, and uninstall anything thats prebuilt in

Juicyfrooty · 20/10/2018 19:23

Is the windows defender antivirus enough, it's all I have on my desktop pc and never have issues with that. The McAfee has expired.

A 10 minute boot is unlikely, though not impossible, to be caused by anything physically wrong with it. More likely to be a software problem. Maybe malware, maybe too many junky programs that either came with the PC or were installed after. McAffee and other bloated "security suite" software are common culprits, our Dell was awful until I got rid of the pre-installed McAffee anti(?)virus, you don't need it, Windows 10 include antivirus protection. PC World would probably direct you towards their technician service who would charge you to (possibly) fix it.

safariboot · 20/10/2018 19:51

I forgot to refresh the page before posting. I suggest you uninstall that expired McAffee and make sure Windows Defender is on. Then when you've got some free time run a full scan in Windows Defender, because the expired McAffee might have let malware through. Expired antivirus is worse than none at all.

Juicyfrooty · 20/10/2018 20:06

I've got the windows virus scan running now. I'm going to uninstall all the unnecessary programs once it's finished.

Should the spec be good enough to run roblox? I specifically asked them when I bought it and they said it would be.
