Bleeding after childbirth

I am almost 3 weeks postpartum and my bleeding stopped 4-5 days ago. Today I have had red bleeding for the last couple of hours. Is this normal?

I got my first period a few days after the bleeding stopped so could be that...

Mine was stop-start after a couple of weeks with both pregnancies. You should notice that it changed to more of a yellowish brown towards the end, as long as everything smells normal and you aren't in any discomfort then it's normal

CountessVonBoobs · 20/10/2018 16:29

Fairly normal, yeah. It's often a sign you're overdoing it.

Yeah it went yellowish-brown. I’ve had a bit of that for the last few days but no bleeding until I started bleeding red again today. It seems very early for a period but maybe it could be. I feel fine otherwise.

It could be a period. Same thing happened to me 6 weeks post partum, turned out to be a period even though I was ebf. But just keep an eye on it for any signs of infection/retained placenta such as fever or smell.

Hotchocolate86 · 20/10/2018 16:57

Thank you keepingbees. I don’t think I have any sign of infection yet but will monitor it. I was more concerned about haemorrhage. I’d forgotten about infection. I don’t thjnk the bleeding is excessive at the moment. It’s been about 3 hours or so and I’ve changed my pad once when it was about half full. Sorry if that’s TMI.

I know my midwife kept warning me that bleeding would likely stop and start following my section and not to get complacent. Not sure if the same is true for vaginal deliveries.

Hotchocolate86 · 20/10/2018 17:03

I had a c section too LivLemler. I thought after 4 or 5 days that it had definitely stopped but it seems I was wrong.

Mine stopped and started again several times with a few days in between, very irritating.

Ceecee18 · 20/10/2018 17:17

Mine would stop and start for a month or so after birth. It always started again when I was over doing it a bit.

Hotchocolate86 · 20/10/2018 17:20

I did have a busier day yesterday than I’ve been used to so maybe that’s it.

I guessed you'd be a c-section. This is very common.
A day of red bleeding after 2-3 weeks seems to happen to most people. As long as it not heavy or persists for days don't worry.
My (unproven) theory is that it's linked to the inner side of the womb healing and shedding a layer of endometrium.
