Mince pie filling - Amaretto?

I live in a place where ready made mince pies aren't available. Therefore need to make our own.

I am a bit late this year making the filling, but hey ho. Last year I used sherry, it was nice, but the rest of the sherry just sat around as nobody drinks it. Now the flavour is wierd.

The only alcohol we ever drink at home on occasion would be something like Amaretto (Disaronno is available here). Would mince pies made with just this be fine?

I usually use the Mary Berry no suet recipe as no suet here either which works nicely.

It'd be lush. I use it for christmas cake and it is very nice.

The mince pies would taste of marzipan. If everyone likes it then it wouldn't be a problem.

I guess they will be like a mince pie crossed with the almondness of a bakewell tart.

Sounds lush!

God, that sounds great! I might have to try that myself.

Yep I always put amaretto in my mince pies

I make mince pies with a dollop of frangipane on top instead of the top layer of pastry. I love the combination of almond and mincemeat. Amaretto sounds great.

You can buy jars of amaretto mincemeat. O made some last year and they were lovely

SunnySomer · 20/10/2018 09:40

It will be lovely. For future reference, fortified wines like sherry and port will go off but spirits (eg brandy) don’t so if you were to invest in a bottle of brandy for a more traditional flavour it would last many christmases

Ohhhhhh. Those mince pies. Not, like, minced beef & onion pie. I was thinking 🤮 at amaretto in a mince & onion pie 😄🤭
