Socially acceptable?

Sat on the tube today there was a lady with an ice cream tub full off soup sat next to me. She'd quickly take spoonfuls every time the train decelerated and while it waited at the station. I do appreciate that as I reckon I would have ended up with a lap full of soup if she had been eating it while the train went full speed.

For some reason soup seems to fall into the unacceptable train food category. Are there other foods which people deem unacceptable in certain situations?

😂 in an ice cream tub?!

NoHufflefucksGivenMugglefucker · 19/10/2018 23:06

You should have picked your lips and said MMMMMMM. Then she would have moved

attentionspan · 19/10/2018 23:07

Egg sandwiches always seem to go down pretty badly on school coach trips Grin

WickedGoodDoge · 19/10/2018 23:09

Eating tuna mayo in public should be illegal.

chillipophey · 19/10/2018 23:12

What kind of icecream tub? Carte dor or Haagen Dazs?

CoquetteRegret · 19/10/2018 23:14

A Carte D'or ice cream tub to be precise. Is anyone's day SO busy that the train is the only place to eat? An impromptu sandwich from pret I get. But this was a planned soup from home, she should have also planned a suitable place to eat it!

Haha now I'm imagining someone drinking soup out of a Haagen Dazs tub.

I was visioning more one of those cheap huge white ones that holds a litre 🤔

Gohackyourself · 20/10/2018 06:40

I got caught out being late home and hadn’t eaten for ten hours, had to grab a Mac d and take it into tube.
I was waiting to get to the less busy part of line to eat, but then the woman sat next to me, stayed right till we were last two passengers on train an I felt bad to get it out and start eating.A cold fillet o fish is awful Grin

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 20/10/2018 07:58

I'm laughing at timing the spoonfuls in between the acceleration! 🤣

AppleKatie · 20/10/2018 08:00

Eating on the tube is always grim. Soup? Beyond grim.

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 20/10/2018 08:54

I first read this as eating soap! So I imagined a pregnant lady! Once I realised, soup seems less unacceptable!

CherryPavlova · 20/10/2018 09:02

Eating on the tube or buses is never acceptable. Eating whilst walking in the street is never acceptable.

Mealtimes are when one should eat in a place designated for that purpose.

Caprisunorange · 20/10/2018 09:03

Lots of different cultures in London though and it’s acceptable in many. She probably didn’t think for a second an uptight Brit would be paying any attention Grin

Notjustanyone · 20/10/2018 09:07

@Caprisunorange An uptight Brit? Speak for yourself! I don't care what, where or when people eat!

Caprisunorange · 20/10/2018 09:17

I’m not referring to you @notjustanyone I’m referring to the op

CoquetteRegret · 20/10/2018 13:10

@Caprisunorange how very dare you assume I'm British (I am) or that I'm uptight (got it right again). But still! It's terrible to make assumptions lol.

It wouldn’t bother me to see someone eating on public transport. It’s a perfectly natural thing and you have no idea how the rest of her day is so it may have been the best time for her to eat that day.

Stephisaur · 20/10/2018 15:06

Wouldn’t bother me at all, but I would probably have suggested to her that she get some form of food thermos so that her soup didn’t get cold Grin
