seemed lovely but looking back makes you cringe? I remember putting a peach carpet on my bathroom floor in my first flat and loving it and now think OMG!!😂😂

I went to town with the statement wallpaper in our old house. Feature walls in every room.

I have my theories about which of the current trends will age very badly...

SimplyPut · 19/10/2018 18:02

What ones @WineGummyBear ?

My first flat had a black leather corner sofa and recliner chair with peach cushions!

hmmwhatatodo · 20/10/2018 08:25

Those big flower prints like red on black or vice versa that seemed to be a feature wall of people’s livingrooms a couple of years ago, maybe more. Didn’t like them then and still don’t like them now.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 20/10/2018 09:18

Pink carpet
Matching duvet cover and Austrian blinds

Crunchymum · 20/10/2018 09:21

I've always lived in magnolia places.

Love a bit of magnolia, you can't go wrong.

Interested to hear the predictions about what current trends will age badly.

BarbaraofSevillle · 20/10/2018 09:27

I was only thinking just the other day that coloured bathroom suites would probably never come back. Ours in the late 70s or early 80s chosen by DM when I was a child I hasten to add was fuisha.

peachypetite · 20/10/2018 09:29

Ergh yes feature walls, usually with flowery wallpaper

Bluntness100 · 20/10/2018 09:54

Curiously I've always went for neutral colours, so on the downside it's very dull, but the upside is over the last twenty odd years any home decor hasn't really dated if I look back.

The only exception would be i once tiled a kitchen all different coloured tiles, which was very in then, and dated quickly.

OrangeOrBlackcurrant · 20/10/2018 09:56

My mum carpeted the side of our bath. Though thinking about it none of us ever thought that it was lovely! Grin

Babdoc · 20/10/2018 10:02

I remember the 80’s being horribly over ornate. Every wall in trendy houses was stencilled, swagged, rag rolled, or covered in hugely patterned paper, while the windows were almost obliterated in swathes of ruffled and layered fabric!
As an autistic with sensory overstimulation issues, I was very relieved when the minimalist, pale magnolia and/or Scandinavian look replaced it.

PoptartPoptart · 20/10/2018 10:02

I prefer to go with neutral colours, magnolia, cream, white, soft beige colours and then accessorise with colourful soft furnishings to jazz it up. Means it can be changed every few years when things go out of fashion or you just don’t like it anymore without costing a fortune.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 20/10/2018 10:11

Those big flower prints like red on black or vice versa that seemed to be a feature wall of people’s livingrooms

Particularly beloved by the tearful family back home on Wanted Down Under. Almost without exception.

BarbaraofSevillle · 20/10/2018 10:13

I bet a lot of people regret all the artexing they did too.

PlateOfBiscuits · 20/10/2018 10:18

I love going with a trend. I’d much rather think back and laugh fondly over the peach carpeted bathroom then live forever in a beige box because I worry about design trends changing.

Stripyhoglets1 · 20/10/2018 10:38

Textured walls - I've always hated them ad when we were buying 18 years ago they were everywhere. We bought this house because they didn't have them!

I think the current trend for very dark paint of grey/dark blue/green/black (as seen all over instagram) will date quite quickly and them be a pita to get rid of!

hmmwhatatodo · 20/10/2018 10:42

How about big flowery wallpaper with a bit of flock?

SilentIsla · 20/10/2018 10:48

People are asking about decorating disasters when viewed retrospectively - not about how amazing the magnolia look is.

LostInShoebiz · 20/10/2018 11:12

I hope those god awful letters spelling out words that people have everywhere will piss off soon. Soak, cook, family- urgh.

And a sticker on the wall saying Live, Laugh, Love or a definition of Family. They always appear on WDU or Eat Well For Less.

OooOooOoooEstPierreLapin · 20/10/2018 11:26

Ah. Those green walls I thought would look ace in my first house 🤮.

I am colour blind btw.

Babdoc · 20/10/2018 11:29

Oh grief, yes, LostinShoebiz - I hate those words on walls too. They’re all over the place in Location, Location.
May I add wood chip wallpaper from the 1970’s to this horrorfest? Utter nightmare to try and remove from walls, especially with several layers of paint on top!

WineGummyBear · 21/10/2018 18:51

Here are my predictions for trends that may not age well:

Grey on grey
Bifold doors
Metro tiles
Wine fridges in kitchens
Fishtanks in kitchens
Industrial style lighting

(I do have some of the above in my house...)

WineGummyBear · 21/10/2018 18:52

Yikes, forgot about ARTEX. Our first house was awash with it

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 21/10/2018 18:54

www.facebook.com/groups/buyitWolverhampton/permalink/1936674759762779/?sale_post_id=1936674759762779

I'm sure someone's going to regret this in the future.

Mountainsided · 21/10/2018 18:55

I don’t see how bifold doors will ever go out of fashion? Surely they look better than standard patio doors??

LongDiscoClara · 21/10/2018 18:56

Artex! My dad artexed the bathroom. My sister and I had a fight and she pushed me into it and I skint all my face. There was also a wee baldy patch next to the toilet roll holder that I used to pick when I was on the toilet.
