Hi just over a week ago i found out i was pregnant! 5days later i started to bleed. So i went to my local hospital. They did a urine test and it came back negative so they did a blood test and came back positive but only just a low hcg. They told me to return on 48hrs for another blood test. My hormones had gone from 62 to 92 in this time so they thought i may be miscarrying. They checked my cervix and it was closed. I returned home to pass a 20p size blood clot and some clear tissue. But again to return in 48hrs for another blood test. My hormones had only gone from 92 to 98 this time they did an internal ultrasound and told my they couldn't see anything. So they said that my baby was gone but to go back on 48hrs for another blood test to make sure. So i went back and my hormones had gone from 98 to 182!!! They couldnt believe it. They are now saying this looks promising?! I am so confused. Do i greive that i have lost my baby? Do i think i still have it? Please if anyone has any advise let me know

The best you can do is wait which I know personally is very hard. Lots of women bleed in early pregnancy and go on to have a baby but equally many bleed and it signals the end of a pregnancy. Have they said when you should test again?

Good luck

I don't have experience but I wanted to say I wish you the best of luck

I don't know tbh. Did you not ask them at the hospital? Maybe you lost a twin?

Unfortunately you'll just have to wait it out. There's no point grieving for something you don't know you've lost. Personally I'd just wait a week and see what happens then take another test.

If you get heavy bleeding, excessive pain or fever then go back to the hospital.

Thankyou for your replies. Yes i asked the hospital but they are confused. As to why my hormones have shot up when they thought i had lost the baby. They want me back in tomorrow for another blood test. They have no idea if am pregnant or not, if i have miscarried or not, as i have had no pain at all! Just bleeding and passing of a clot :/

Nibble96 - so sorry you are going through this tough time. I can empathise with the difficulty of holding hope and fear of loss at the same time. The one thing I found the most helpful when going through this situation is to just try to focus on the current situation and try not to think about the what-ifs. I found the mantra "today I am pregnant" helpful, each time I started to hope and dream, it brings you back to the current day only, when you start to fear the worst, it brings you back to the present again. Use the mantra, and try to keep yourself busy with other things to think about.

Looking at your current situation, the bleeding does not necessarily mean that you are heading to a miscarriage. The lack of doubling of numbers consistently does not mean inevitable miscarriage either. It is possible two eggs implanted but only one has taken hold, it could be that this pregnancy is struggling, or it could mean absolutely nothing as it is very early days.

Normally the hcg levels need to be over 1000 for there to be anything to be seen on an internal scan, and over 10,000 for a heartbeat.

So unfortunately you are in a difficult situation of having to be patient to find out what the outcome might be. Try to hold onto the mantra rather than thinking about the what might be happening (good or bad). Give yourself extra TLC as well. Today you are pregnant.
