How would you put up a safety gate on my stairs?

The newel post is on the third step up, so that’s where I’ve installed a gate, but my 15mo climbed up the bottom two steps then fell off, so clearly I need a better solution! Any ideas? Pic (hopefully) attached.

you could try a configure gate. you can position it at the bottom of your stairs

Can you block the corridor instead? So it goes from newel post to wall over the wood floor?

Look at a baby dan gate

pastabest · 18/10/2018 19:08

Leave it where it is.

Part of the development process involves falling off stuff. It's how they learn balance and spatial awareness.

At 15mo they really won't be falling off stuff for much longer anyway!

Baby Dan baby den to fence it all off. If you are anywhere near me I have two in my garage gathering cobwebs...

dementedpixie · 18/10/2018 19:10

maybe something like this could work to block it off

buscaution · 18/10/2018 19:11

I would just leave it.

JosellaPlayton · 18/10/2018 19:11

I’d keep them out of the hallway altogether by putting gates on the other doorways and/or keeping the doors closed.

What pastabest said. They’re not likely to do any real damage falling a couple of steps like that and need the opportunity to have a couple of steps somewhere to learn to climb safely.

SoupDragon · 18/10/2018 19:12

I used a baby dan baby den for a similar set up. I tied it to the bannister posts on one side and attached it to the wall on the other.

I’d go for a retractable stair gate, especially if you are planning on any more babies in the future (just leave it up)
