Gifts for plane passengers

We fly in just over a week to Australia with our 9 month old twins (21 hour journey in total)
Talking to my brother today, he asked if we had organised a gift to other plane passengers... basically a note 'from' the twins apologising for any disruption from them as it is their first flight.

I hadn't considered it before, would you think it tacky or appreciate a small gesture from us?

I have packed as much as I can into the hand luggage to entertain them and there will be four of us travelling so enough to take turns walking the aisles too.

Any suggestions are gratefully appreciated!

Sounds like a cool idea! We were given earplugs and lollypops once, it was really generous of the family and we haven't forgotten since :)

It would take up a lot of space. I definitely think a note with earplugs at the very least (though I'm sure they're provided the airline?) and maybe a little chocolate each for the four rows in front and behind might help?

Not necessary but it'd be really sweet if you gave fellow passengers a little envelope with a note from the babies saying "sorry if we cry, our ears might hurt", a sweet, and a pair of earplugs.

It’s a special kind of areshole that gets annoyed by babies crying, many of us have been there and understand you are doing your best.

But there is a baby on every single flight. Yours probably won't be the only babies on that flight, so common is a baby on a flight. Most people won't give a thought to your babies. They are also on a long flight for their own reasons. My friend is on a flight at this very moment to Melbourne having just said goodbye to her mother for the last time as she is dying.

Not necessary. People have enough to carry without extra stuff.
I fly regularly and kids/babies are part and parcel of public transport. Never had a "gift" and neither would I expect one.
There'll be other children on the plane getting bored.

I wouldn't do presents of any sort. All flights are a lottery - smelly people, non stop chatty people, people who constantly get up and down etc.

I would not want to be handed more stuff to juggle on a long flight.

I would think it twee and ridiculous and inwardly roll my eyes. It seems so very "look at us, aren't we marvellous"

We traveled twice with DS this year at 6 months and 8 months, we just bought the 3rd person in our actual row a drink and everyone was great with him luckily

You can get ideas online, I’ve seen ready made ones before.

I don't think I've ever been on a long haul flight where there hasn't been at least one baby or toddler. You just put up with it and feel sorry for the parents, and hope to be seated as far away as possible from them!

What soupdragon said. It's one of those things that has done the rounds on FB as an amazing thing one couple did once and everyone thinks they are the coolest. A flight to Aus is a bastard however you slice it, crying babies or not.

I definitely wouldn’t. We travel with our babies , families are allowed holidays just like anyone else,plus trips to the states and Australia to see family. I won’t apologise for that. I will do my utmost to have them behave of course but as parents we are just trying to survive the trip ourselves. Everyone else can enjoy not having to look after our children themselves.

Just try and relax about the flight. Babies pick up on you being tense. No reason why they will necessarily be a pain at all. And if they are? So what?

It’s a bit “look at me”, performance parenting to me. I’ve enough to juggle/think about when I fly long haul without messing about with notes and earplugs (I have my own earplugs anyway).
