Big baby measurements and head not engaged

Hi everyone, just looking for a little advice. Pregnant with our first baby- baby has measured above the 90th percentile since 28 weeks. I’ve been checked for gestational diabetes and got the all clear. I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and the baby’s head is still free. Going back to see the consultant again next week at 39 weeks and he will decide how long they will let me go overdue due to the larger size of baby. Ive just a few questions as I try to make sense of things - what happens if I go into labour before the head is engaged- is it possible?
Or if I go over my due date to the consultants limit and the baby’s head is still not engaged are they likely to still induce me or am I looking more along the lines of a section? Our baby has only just got themselves into the head down position! Thanks in advance! Just getting a little nervous now!

Head being engaged is not something that will have any bearing on induction. As long as baby is head down there is no indication for a c section. I've had 4 baby's and only the first 2 were engaged before labour.

His head should engage after labour starts because of the contractions, if it hasn't already.

If he's not head down when labour starts then you should insist on a c section if it's not standard there. You don't want a baby coming out breech, especially a big one.

I wouldn't worry too much about how big the baby might be, we thought our daughter would be over 8 lbs based on scans, but she was less than 7.
