Quick jigsaw question....

Is a 500 piece jigsaw too easy for adults or would the 1000 piece one be too fiddly and get boring?
I know the present recipients like jigsaws but no idea what kind of level they are at. Do you have to be some kind of jigsaw buff to do 1000 pieces or is that pretty standard?

Please help! I have no clue as my DC does ones with about 8 pieces! Blush

I enjoy jigsaws and always go for 1000 pieces. I tried a 636 piece puzzle recently (as wide as normal but less tall as I’m heavily pregnant and can’t lean forward as far) and found it too simple - completed in one setting.

tessiegirl · 17/10/2018 22:17

Yes I agree on 1000 pieces.
My nan always has 1000 pieces as she completes anything less far too quickly

chemenger · 17/10/2018 22:19

Definitely 1000 pieces, satisfyingly challenging without being too big.

I love a jigsaw and 1000 pieces is about right in terms of the time it takes; 500 would be too easy

Barabajagal · 17/10/2018 22:22

1000 pieces everytime!

GreenDinosaur · 17/10/2018 22:23

Brilliant, thank you everyone, 1000 pieces it is! Smile

I'm a jigsawer

Definitely 1000 pieces

Have a look at Colin Thompson ones, different, more colourful

GreenDinosaur · 17/10/2018 22:28

Thanks, I'll look at them for another time. I'm just ordering a cityscape one of the city they live in, looks pretty cool.

I always do 1000 piece jigsaws. I really like the Ravensburger puzzles. They are good quality and they have some lovely designs - example: www.amazon.co.uk/Ravensburger-Curious-Cupboard-No-3-Gardeners/dp/B00R63B79M/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=jigsaw+puzzles+for+adults+1000+piece+ravensburger&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1539811651&sr=8-2

Oh, I like the 500 piece ones because my eyesight is terrible so the bigger pieces are better for me.

DiamondsInTheMud · 17/10/2018 22:50

Ive been known to do 500 piece jigsaws upside down cos they are too easy otherwise...

But im known in my family for my jigsawing skills so maybe not the best judge 😂

nocoolnamesleft · 17/10/2018 22:51

500 - occasional jigsawer
1000 - regular jigsawer
Bigger than that - expert jigsawer

AQuestionofIntent · 17/10/2018 22:54

Jigsawer here. I now mostly do 1500. 1000 take me anywhere from 1.5hr-3hrs depending on how well I know the puzzle. A 500 would be way to easy for someone who does a lot.

Johnb0y · 17/10/2018 23:01

Slightly hijacking your thread, but would a 1000 piece Jigsaw be too difficult for children ages 10 and 12?

ShowOfHands · 17/10/2018 23:16

It'd be doable but would take a while and maybe need a bit of guidance. I think you'd be better off with a 500.
