Last year we had a small party bonfire night watched a local display then went back to my house to do a firepit and fireworks. This year have been asked if we are doing it again it, as it was such good fun!

I put on some hotdogs burgers and a curry.

Would like to do something different food wise this year although hotdogs always go down well so will prob so them again for the kids.

What would you like to eat at a bonfire party? Any sugestions for a dessert?

I went to a bonfire party where pudding was pancakes with a sort of apple and cinnamon thing in the middle .. with Greek yogurt .. they were yum .. I once tried to make a bonfire cake with a bonfire made from matchmakers !!! ... bit of a disaster !!!

It was always pie and mushy peas when I was a child or jacket potatoes. Parkin for dessert.

2018dramaqueen · 17/10/2018 17:25

Where I live potato pie and red cabbage is mandatory, also black peas! The black peas are possibly regional though! So good with lots of salt and vinegar.
Oh and definitively Parkin and toffee apples Grin

Baked potatoes and treacle toffee!

Proper cooked over bonfire jacket spuds with chilli or chicken tikka filling.

Piri Pirir chiken wings, cooked on BBQ
Parkin
Hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows
S'mores made with reese's peant butter cups and melted marshmallows

I once tried to make a bonfire cake with matchsticks @Alicatz66 my mum used to make a lovely bonfire cake every year using cadbury flake logs and yellow and orange buttercream icing. The sponge inside was marbled chocolate and vanilla with orange peel. Awesome.

Jacket potatoes and stew of chilli. Something warming.

LMW1990 · 17/10/2018 17:46

Every year I do the same menu and it does down a storm:

Butternut squash or Pumpkin soup

Steak pie with mashed potato and peas

Pumpkin pie and Parkin

Mulled wine or hot cider

Hot chocolate with marshmallow and cream

People bring a few fireworks and their own booze. It's become an annual event. We have a little bonfire in a garden incinerator and everyone stand round.

Dessert - apple, cored, raisins in core space, little honey or syrup, pinch of cinnamon, wrap in foil bake on bonfire.

Mushy peas in a pot with lots of vinegar, combine with butter beans also nice.

Corn on the cob, maybe some spice rub, foiled and baked on bonfire.

If you serve chilli have tortilla chips to scoop up.

Dds favourite soup I make - equal parts carrots and butternut squash (which I roast with garlic first), tin of tomatoes, veg stock (I'm veggie but you can use meat stock if you like), curry powder, cardamom and nutmeg to your taste. - roast squash, then boil everything up in stock except spices, blend till smooth, then add spices - some people like to toast spices first. Hearty and warming, great with heavily buttered crusty rolls dipped in.

@Lifechangesforever - Google macaroni cheese pies 😉

Ohhh I love fruit cake and cheese! But in my case malt loaf and scottish cheddar!

Alicatz66 · 17/10/2018 19:23

I'm starving now !!! @mozartvanbeethoven !

SapphireSeptember · 17/10/2018 19:55

Has anyone said toasted marshmallows? Because I love those! You can get giant ones too. Grin

Notquiteagandt · 17/10/2018 20:12

Im confused..do you put the mint sauce in with the peas or on top of.

@GreedyBastard scouse pies sounds like the best thing ever!! Why have I never thought of this before my 2 favourite foods. Pies and scouse. Yummy!

I was actually going to reply saying scouse but youve uped the anty.

We have an annual bonfire night party in our back garden and our menu usually is:

  • chilli
  • crispy jacket potatoes
  • salsa
  • sausages in buns
  • homemade cinder toffee, brownies and cakes

Simple, but tasty and warming.

I also made Hotdogs(real sausages)and fried onions and then we had sticky toffee sponge pudding and chocolate fondant pudding with custard or cream and I made toffee apples and Luxury hot chocolate and we had alcohol for the adults.
