What kind of food would you like at Bonfire night party?

Last year we had a small party bonfire night watched a local display then went back to my house to do a firepit and fireworks. This year have been asked if we are doing it again it, as it was such good fun!

I put on some hotdogs burgers and a curry.

Would like to do something different food wise this year although hotdogs always go down well so will prob so them again for the kids.

What would you like to eat at a bonfire party? Any sugestions for a dessert?

What is this madness??? Stews? Soups? Hotdogs???Confused

Surely the only acceptable bonfire food is pork pie and mushy peas with mint sauce. Parkin for afters? Possible some bonfire toffee for good measure.

Summerbabygirl · 17/10/2018 11:32

Toffee apples, chocolate apples, apple crumble, mini pots of slow cooked beef stew, hot dogs or pulled pork in a toasted brioche bun, pumpkin/ butternut squash soup, cheesy baked mushrooms, some nice Brie with chutney and chunky crusty bread. I know it’s Christmassy but baked Camembert.

I am on a diet and very hungry now!

Pork pies with mushy peas and mint sauce is a standard in Yorkshire.

The butchers sell gift boxed dozens of pies by the, er, dozen. You can also buy peas there, but I make my own.

Never heard of anyone having curry or chicken wings at bonfire night or any other pudding except parkin and possibly bonfire toffee, people are too full from the pie and peas and baked potatoes anyway.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 17/10/2018 11:36

Falafel in burger bun or pitta bread.
For afters, cinder toffee! I have never tried making it myself but that's what someone's mum made for Bonfire Night long ago.

Notso · 17/10/2018 11:37

Pork slow cooked in cider on bread cakes with onions followed by s'mores.

Pork slow cooked in cider on bread cakes with onions
Sung to the tune of "A Few of my Favourite Things". Smile

Pie and peas with gravy, Parkin and Candy Apples.

Perfect.

TheWiseWomansFear · 17/10/2018 11:48

And the pie, peas and mint sauce is traditional in the North.

By traditional, we mean mandatory and I'd be very upset if there were no pies at bonfire night.

Rarfy · 17/10/2018 11:49

Hot dog buns with onions
Toffee apples
Hot chocolate with whipped cream

Summerbabygirl · 17/10/2018 11:53

Rarfy that sounds perfect. Simple but yummy Smile

kaytee87 · 17/10/2018 11:54

Baked potatoes and chilli

ApplesinmyPocket · 17/10/2018 11:55

Sausages. Fried onions. Jacket potatoes with unlimited butter.

That would be my idea of perfection for Bonfire Night.

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 11:55

sausages.

though, in fact, unless you live in the middle of nowhere, I'm not a fan of fireworks in people's back gardens.

GreedyBastard · 17/10/2018 11:58

I like the simple aproach but am a known feeder Blush am from the northwest and still never heard of peas and pies although its tempting to make a tray of meat and potato pie.

We dont live in the middle of nowhere but we back out onto the beach that has the local fireworks. So wont be far from the organised display.

Warm spiced cider on the hob. Just chuck cinnamon etc into some cider and do it like mulled wine.

TheWiseWomansFear · 17/10/2018 12:02

Then I'm afraid @GreedyBastard we must revoke your northern card... go on, hand it over.

Never heard of pie and peas tuts audiably in northern

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 12:03

oh well, that sounds lovely. Can i come? Love a bonfire on the beach!

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 12:04

won't the entire beach pile into your garden? Or is that the idea?

bellinibobble · 17/10/2018 12:08

I am sat here in Yorkshire, having lived here my whole life, and I have never seen a pork pie with mint sauce at a bonfire night party? I'm so bemused Shock

GreedyBastard · 17/10/2018 12:10

good god no random beach goers are piling in.

I say back out onto the beach its about 50 steps away down a hill the end of our road were the last house is the prom so our garden is raised so we overlook the beach if that makes sense.

Pie and peas is sounding better by the minute though

I've never seen pie and peas either. Even in Yorkshire.

Cheesy jacket potatoes (cheesy bacon jacket potatoes if no veggies), sausages and burgers, and Parkin/bonfire toffee/chocolate gingerbread and chocolate cake is where it's at. And mulled wine.

lifechangesforever · 17/10/2018 12:24

Pork pie, mushy peas & mint sauce.

Except I'm vegetarian so I can't, so cheese & onion pie instead.

Also, jacket potatoes and above all - Parkin!

lifechangesforever · 17/10/2018 12:24

@BarbaraofSevillle are you from Yorkshire by any chance?

Joinourclub · 17/10/2018 12:26

Hot chocolate and churros for pudding.

Uncooperativefingers · 17/10/2018 12:29

Lancastrian here and potato pie with mushy peas and picked cabbage is the only thing to eat on bonfire night. With parkin and too much treacle toffee for afters (Thornton's treacle toffee is pretty good if you can't be bothered to make your own). Hungry now...
