Question for dieticians or public health nutritionist

I wanted to look up the recommended daily calorie intake for children. I've found several studies which are on children 5/6-12 year olds. I can't find a reason for this though.
Is it that it's easier to collect data because it's primary school children? I.e. purely organisational.
Or does it have something to do with nutritional needs (puberty?) and after that age calorie intake is like for adults?
