I'm 62 years old :) I've been driving for more than half my life but always as second driver on my husband's car. Now he's retired he's monopolising the car a lot more and I decided I need my own wheels so I can have some independence. Today I bought a 64 plate Toyota Yaris in pale silvery blue or "fogey blue" as I call it. I pick it up on Friday. So excited!

Congrats!! Enjoy your new car

Enjoy every mile - it's so liberating!

You'll need a name for it too!

partystress · 17/10/2018 00:24

Go you! It really is liberating. Hope you make the most of your independence.

I totally get it. In my case I only learnt to drive when DH died. I had tried before but my instructor was so awful he made me belive I could not drive and late DH (whilst I and DD miss him constantly) was such a nervous driver and he put me off. Turns out I am a natural, passed my test 1st time with 15 hours of tuition and I now drive all over the country. The family car was sitting there and I absolutely love a long drive (lucky as family are 4 hours north and south). Excited for you!

Does it have a name?
My car is called Esmerelda.

How Lovely!
Enjoy every mile

Good choice of car! Enjoy your new independence, OP. I love having a car, and driving.

Youvegotafriendinme · 17/10/2018 13:41

How wonderful for you. I hope she has a name?

fussychica · 17/10/2018 15:18

Good for you!
My DS is on the same high. He only passed his test a couple of weeks ago and picked up his car on Saturday. Since then he's driven it to work and been on the M25 and M1already.
Enjoy your independence.

You're going to love it! I passed my test less than a month ago and the freedom is amazing! Scootching up and down the motorway every day for work.

heatherblue · 17/10/2018 19:40

Hmm, a name? Hadn't thought about that and DH will think I'm bonkers but ... I'm picking her up from Wakefield so open to suggestions for good no-nonsense Yorkshire names.
