Do you always eat at the dining table?

DP and I eat breakfast (not always together) and lunch at the table but have dinner in front of the telly on trays Confused
But now that we have a DC about to start on solids I think I'd like to start having "dinner as a family" at The Table. Thoughts?

All meals at the table, even quick ones.

BillywilliamV · 16/10/2018 17:33

Always at the table, cloth on and mats. It is sometimes the only chance to see our teenage Dds.

purpleleotard · 16/10/2018 17:36

Most of the time at a table
Maybe once a quarter in front of the TV if a movie is on.

dreamyflower · 16/10/2018 17:40

Since DS was weaned we eat at table. DH always late home so sometimes I eat with DS and sometimes I wait for DH. If I don't eat with DS, I still sit with him at the table.

Dauphinois · 16/10/2018 17:41

Always table.

LongSummerDays · 16/10/2018 18:16

Always at the table unless OH isn't here then I sit on the sofa. 😋

pontiouspilates · 16/10/2018 18:23

Mum of two teenagers here - we always eat at the table and as they have got older its been a rare time of day for us all to be together and catch
up in the day without distractions. It's lovely!

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 16/10/2018 18:27

Always. No fucker eats on my nice sofa. Except me when I'm on my own! Grin
(Or in my car-and even I don't do that).

WhoeverKnows · 16/10/2018 18:40

Always at the table, otherwise I'd get it all over me, never mind the kids!

Unless it's pizza and movie night.

KarrisWhiteOak · 16/10/2018 18:47

All meals always at the table.
The three year old is too messy and even if I have crisps or done tho g the ten month old is like a begging, grabby dog, so everything at table.

KindergartenKop · 16/10/2018 19:46

DH and I eat dinner on the sofa after the kids go to bed. All meals with the kids are eaten at the table because they're filthy beasts.

MrsJBaptiste · 16/10/2018 19:56

Yes, always at the table unless DH and I have a takeaway then we get an old tablecloth out on the carpet and eat on the floor in front of the telly 😁

porkinmyteeth · 16/10/2018 20:00

Nope, we don't own a dinner table. Dinner is on laps, DD has small corner table and sits on sofa with us.

Ragwort · 16/10/2018 20:05

Nearly always at the table, I find it really uncomfortable eating from a sofa - I will very, very occasionally but only if I am on my own at home Grin. I also don't like watching TV whilst I eat - I can't concentrate on either properly.

We love sitting round the table discussing our day - in theory that sounds nice but with a grumpy teenager it often ends up in a one sided conversation followed by an argument about the clearing up - family life sound so perfect but the reality isn't always Grin.

theboxofdelights · 16/10/2018 20:14

Yes, always .... apart from the occasional weekend meal when we might collect takeaway pizzas from our local Italian place and sit on the floor in a reception room with the pizzas on a big board on a huge coffee table. Or indoor picnics, same room same table. Film watching nights.

simplysecondnature · 16/10/2018 20:15

Table always, most of the meals I cook are several dishes in the centre that you share, just like my mum did! So wouldn't work anywhere but a table.

bottledatsource · 16/10/2018 20:19

No. Everyone makes their own food and takes it to their room including me.

Harrykanesrightsock · 16/10/2018 20:24

We always did when DCs where small but they are now older teens, rarely home at feeding times. We either eat at the breakfast bar or on laps and rarely together. Sunday’s are always at the table.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 16/10/2018 20:29

Used to try to eat at table as much as possible but with older teens it's harder now with part time jobs and social lives.

Still manage it on Sundays usually. But as ragwort says it isn't always a fun family catch up Grin

DrWhy · 16/10/2018 20:35

Always at the table, toddler DS would make far too much mess eating anywhere else! DH and have generally sat at the table since we have had one, with the possible exception of pizza eaten on the sofa in front of the TV. Now we don’t even do that - might go back to that being an occasional treat once DS and bump are big enough.

Normandy144 · 16/10/2018 20:36

DH and I are both from families where the main evening meal was eaten at the table. We fell into the habit of eating in front of the TV due to lack of space. Now we have kids we eat dinner at the table as a family but on Friday nights the kids get pizza (or some other hand held food) and movie night which is on sofas in front of the TV. We also will then eat a take away or something later in front of the TV.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 16/10/2018 20:40

Most dinners at the table all together. I’d rather eat at 7 but I do like us all being able to chat.

We sometimes have indoor picnics in the living room but that’s a ‘treat’ so maybe once a month? And will be pizza not like a roast dinner!

YetAnotherUser · 16/10/2018 20:42

We have dinner at the table every night. It's a fantastic opportunity for the children to bicker and argue without being distracted by electronics.

MrsExpo · 16/10/2018 20:43

We always eat at the table, never on our knees. It’s a habit we got into when we we’re both working FT - dinner at the table was just about the only time we got to talk to each other.

bruce43mydog · 16/10/2018 20:47

We only eat round the table on Christmas Day. 🎅🏻🙈 and maybe sometimes on Boxing Day.

I would like to be proper about it all. So maybe we will make it a new year resolution.
