How do you find a good GP? At wit's end

I hate my current surgery. Doctors all nice enough, some better than others as is normal, I fucking hate the booking system - it's seven minutes of recorded messages and pressing keys, often to be told it can't book you an appointment.

When it can manage to book, it is never ever with the same doctor. I'm at a loss. I don't know what to do anymore, I'm chronically ill with complex shit and the only way I can get an appointment is when I think there's infection risk because then it gets flagged up as I have an autoimmune condition.

It's just firefighting, no doctor has any time to read my medical history and 10 minute appointments aren't enough.

I've spent 20 mins on hold after looking at NHS choices website, which gives list of surgeries in your area after putting in your postcode - the surgery I called doesn't accept people in my postcode. Wtf. How is that website helpful if it's signposting me to ones that I can't use?

I chose that one to call because it had excellent reviews and won some kind of award. There's nothing to differentiate between the rest of the surgeries. How am I supposed to know which will be good?

I just want to be able to access a GP so that I can manage my health as best I can. Beyond frustrated.
