Describe yourself in 3 words

Morning all I had an interview recently where I was asked this question and my mind went blank. I fumbled my way through it but even now I'm struggling to think of 3 words to describe myself (or anyone for that matter)

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Interview: conscientious, calm, prepared.

Real life: loud, sardonic, flatulent.

NonaGrey · 16/10/2018 21:18

I suspect the fruit question is asked to see how quick you are at thinking on your feet. The actual answer probably doesn’t matter.

Pebblespony · 16/10/2018 22:03

The fruit question was during an interview for a bus driver.

DonnaDarko · 16/10/2018 22:05

Right now: really fecking tired

In an interview: I actually have no idea right now, but I would usually try to pick traits mentioned in their job spec or on the site

ZorbaTheHoarder · 16/10/2018 22:16

In three words: Fab U Lous!

doodlejump1980 · 16/10/2018 22:22

Actually I'd quite like to look the interviewer in the eye and say -

You want me to describe myself to you in 3 words? That's easy.

Your. Next. Boss.

PoesyCherish · 17/10/2018 09:10

Haha some of them have made me laugh. The fruit question sounds awful! I once led a group of interviews and my colleague decided to ask everyone what animal they would be. No idea what he hoped to gain from that question other than to see how they cope under pressure.

I think normally: anxious depressed mess

In an interview situation I was thinking compassionate communicative team-player (can that be one word or is there another word for team player I can use?) This particular interview setting was in a clinic based setting.

Poesy I hope you are not feeling like too much of an anxious depressed mess today. Flowers I'm sure that's not the real you at all.

Your second suggestion sounds eminently sensible.

Or alternatively you could just throw caution to the wind and say -

  1. desperate
  2. for
  3. employment
midsomermurderess · 17/10/2018 10:15

Fat, old, tired.

gothefcktosleep · 17/10/2018 10:17

Provider of solutions.

Good luck OP.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 17/10/2018 10:20

Sad alone un-lovable

Shockers · 17/10/2018 10:22

Sad, demotivated, lethargic.

Usually I’m positive, hardworking and empathetic.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/10/2018 10:26

What people would want to hear.
Organised
calm
adaptable

If I had to tell the truth
Couldn't organise a piss up in brewery.
Huge stress head
Hate change.

SapphireSeptember · 17/10/2018 10:27

Answer to the fruit question, pineapple. (Sweet, tart and spiky!)
Answer to the animal question, raven or wolf.
Answer to three words. Unique, quirky, individual. (Read, weird Goth metalhead.)

heartofgold · 17/10/2018 10:30

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 17/10/2018 11:22

For an interview I’d say “tenacious, articulate, energetic”

When being kind about myself I’d say “loyal, compassionate, tolerant”

When being critical of myself I’d say “argumentative, impatient, controlling”

All the are probably true.

Thanks @OutwiththeOutCrowd sadly do feel that way today. Although deflated exhausted and unmotivated would be a better description this morning.

To everyone who can only think of negative words to describe themselves –

I hope you will find better and more accurate words to describe yourselves soon.

Drifting slightly off topic, I hate the way we are all supposed to ‘sell’ ourselves these days in interviews and CVs. In the old days people mainly stayed within one community, limiting in some ways, but at least people were known to each other and there was no need to go into a room full of strangers and find a way to big yourself up whilst answering contrived questions.

It’s hard to keep putting on your happy pants before interviews, to keep striding into unfamiliar rooms exuding confidence and bonhomie, especially after knockbacks. Eventually the elastic in your happy pants is going to snap.

If we could only go back to the days when a modest, honest account of yourself was sufficient and slick self-promotion was seen as the province of the dodgy.

Poesy I hope today will be a better day for you.
