The following are questions I remember asking my mum when I was a child but never really got a satisfactory answer (and I did used to believe she was the fountain of all knowlege) . If any of you know the answers please reply....and of course feel free to add your own quandries.

  1. Why can you only fold a piece of paper in half maximum 7 times and why 7?
  2. Can you tell the difference between
a Li-ger and a Ti-gon? Anyone?

Apparently Ligers can be bigger than Tigons!

says so here.

Paper - just because!

Armchairanarchist · 16/10/2018 02:14

Ligers are massive, bigger than lions, tigers and much bigger than tigons.

A liger has a lion father and a tiger mother.

A tigon has a tiger father and a lion mother.

Ligers are HUGE - bigger than tigons, bigger than either lions or tigers.

It's a shame about paper - the question "if you fold paper in half fifty times how high would it be" is often trotted out. Indeed, Roald Dahl recalls how it was the only bit of maths that interested his maths master, Corkers.

Do birds have ears? This was a childhood favourite of mine.

One which I used to wonder when it was my turn to be "keeper of the keys": My eyes are open, why can't I see the pattern on the pretty scarf tied over my eyes? I think I was so distracted by this that I forgot to point at the child sneaking up to steal the keys from in front of me, even though I could hear him!

Actually, it's been shown that you repeatedly fold paper in half 12 times - remarkably, the proof was found by a schoolgirl back in 2002 but seems to be little known.
