Pay carers an allowance equivalent to a fulltime job at the National Living wage
Paying unpaid carers would safeguard those requiring care making it a financially viable option for friends and family to look after those they love, Reducing pressure on 999 services and the NHS. Saving vast amounts of money per person. The carer who provides continuity in care is often forgotten

More details
As a former informal carer I can testify that it is more than a full time job and the financial and emotional is immeasurable .
The current amount a carer recieves a week is £62.70. Which is a National Disgrace.

Done. What we pay carers is a disgrace.

It should be recognised as 'employment' too. I was an unpaid carer (in receipt of carers allowance) for 22 years having given up my job to do it. The person I cared for is no longer with us so I really need to get back to a job - but having been out of the job market for 20+ years I'm not the obvious choice for anyone recruiting - except for a care job, which forgive me, but I think it's time for me to do something different.

Carers Allowance equates to £1.57 an hour over 40hrs p/wk. When you consider that the reality for many is 24/7, it works out as 37p an hour. Thirty seven pence. Considering the billions the government saves in care costs thanks to unpaid carers and the level of sacrifice involved, 37p an hour is a disgrace.

exactly.

I care for DC 24/7 and will do so for the rest of my life. I'm sick and tired of not being recognised as an official registered carer.

I'm also surprised there aren't more posters on this thread ad signing the poll which I will now do.

Flowers for all of you.

I am a full time carer to my son. The rate I'm paid is a joke. He had multiple health problems and looking after him is a full time job. No nursery will take him so I can't work and there is no funding for one on one care for him.

I'm getting depressed as I have no money to spend on myself, my whole life revolves around him and I desperately want to go back to work so I can have some financial independence and a social life again. But that's not an option for me and on the money the government pay me I can't even afford to go to the gym or yoga classes or by some new clothes, or go out and see my friends.

Even a small increase would help so that I could have some sort of life outside of being a carer.
