I ran over my buggy and now I need a replacement please!

Put DD in her car seat today in the supermarket car park.. folded buggy up and laid it on ground by car boot ... and then got it the car and reversed out, squashing buggy in process. Needless to say it is buggered beyond repair. So I need a new one! Yes, I am mortified but trying to remain upbeat Grin

Requirements:

  • DD is a heavy girl, nearly 11 months
  • we do a lot of walking but nothing too extreme as we use the sling for big walks - this is for town, cobbled streets, bumpy pavements etc
  • need a good sized shopping basket (ahem)
  • one piece fold preferred

Any suggestions? The buggy that died was a joie nitro which I loved as it was cheap and had tall handles. I stopped using my Oyster 2 a couple of months ago as it is so heavy and takes up loads of boot space being in two parts.

Would a maclaren be a good bet? What's the difference between all the models when they look so similar?

Any ideas would be great! TIA

Silver cross pop is good.

TulipsInBloom1 · 15/10/2018 22:37

I had a Maclaren Techno XT and a Mamas and Pappas Armadillo City. The Armadillo won hands down. Lay flat, massive hood, one hand push, one hand fold with carry handle, folds small (fits in footwell behind drivers seat), bigger more acessible basket , smaller turning circle.

Got mine 2nd hand but would have gladly bought new.

Thanks I will google both of those. Yes forgot to add that a good sized hood is a must too

I second the Silver Cross Pop. The hood is great.

Rip buggy!!
Once put ds into the car and left my £800 pram behind the car.
Neighbour stood flapping hands wildly as I started the engine!!
Saved it though!! Op you are a douche!

Baby Jogger city mini.

RandomMess · 15/10/2018 22:46

If it's really cobbled I would seriously consider a maclaren XT due to suspension and will fit very large pre-schoolers easily. Other than that air tyres?

Fwend · 15/10/2018 22:47

Second vote for BabyJogger City Mini.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 15/10/2018 22:49

Baby Jogger City Mini- great all rounder

IHeartKingThistle · 15/10/2018 22:52

I hated my Silver Cross Pop!

bluechameleon · 15/10/2018 22:56

I like my silver cross pop but the basket is small so I don't think it's the buggy for you. I had a McLaren quest but didn't like it.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 15/10/2018 22:58

Maclaren XLR is tall and fab but can’t you just buy another joie one!

Coolaschmoola · 15/10/2018 22:59

I loved my Maclaren XT.

Want2bSupermum · 15/10/2018 23:00

Citi mini GT or the maclaren XT. I've had/got both and they are fab. The regular citi mini is good but the GT as much better wheels.

UbercornsGoggles · 15/10/2018 23:04

I did loads of research for my second buggy because my 2 year old is really tall and heavy so I needed something that would cope with a child over 15kgs. There aren't many! Ended up with the Phil and Ted's dash and it's great. The hood is brilliant with an extra bit to pull down for low sun. Only slight annoyance is that the recline is quite limited. Good up to 25kgs with a decent long back for tall children. Also excellent for tall parents.

Diorissimo1985 · 16/10/2018 06:15

THanks all... bjcm gt always gets loads of recommendations here but I've never tried one, might see if there is one in a shop locally and I can see what it's like to push.

@ihopeyoustep The basket on the joie is way too small and it wasn't good on rough ground really - I got it for airport travel and holidays and ended up using it more for everyday

@want2besupermum - that's handy you have both! Can I ask which one you prefer to push/handles better? And how heavy are they?

And does your DC nap happily in them?

Look at micralite. Nice big back wheels. I have the old model but has just been updated. I love mine.

WhirlwindHugs · 16/10/2018 06:31

Maclaren (or any kind of cheap umbrella fold) will be rubbish on cobbles unfortunately.

Look for decent suspension and bigger wheels.

We had a mountain buggy swift second hand that was great. Basket wasn't huge though.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 16/10/2018 08:24

Small baskets are the bane of my life!

The maclaren xlr really is excellent

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 16/10/2018 08:26

XLR has high handles, decent suspension, big seat and huge hood and good size basket.
It did brilliantly around town and in parks and even the 4yo took a nap in it sometimes!
Promise I don’t work for them, I just loved it! Grin

BiscuitsAndGravy · 16/10/2018 08:40

We love our silvercross pop. It has a massive hood and also reclines all the way back. The basket is ok, not massive but not tiny either. It does the job.

Blue25654 · 16/10/2018 10:08

I did that only at home so luckily no one saw me! With a baby jogger city mini gt and it survived fine. So i suggest that one in case there’s a repeat performance and it fits your criteria too.

Diorissimo1985 · 16/10/2018 15:11

Ha! @Blue glad it's not just me!

I loved my techno XT too!
