Xbox live?

Finally replaced our broken Xbox. DS desperate for Fortnite and all his friends are telling him their IDs so they can link up. Presumably this requires Xbox Live? And is it only the paid version rather than the free version? I'm not thrilled at having to fork out a yearly subscription tbh.

From the Fortnite web site:

q: Do I need Xbox Live Gold to play Fortnite Battle Royale?
a: Yes. You do need Xbox Live Gold in order to play Fortnite Battle Royale on Xbox.

Sorry!

Bugger. Assumed as much.

Yeh he'll need it. Could it be an early Xmas present?

FunSponges · 16/10/2018 16:10

Might reduce his pocket money a small amount so he can pay for it. Xbox was an unexpected treat and I've already bought most of his Christmas presents and will probably buy a game or 2 that he's after with the rest of the budget.

Do you have to make in game purchases? I really dislike games that make you do this and see it as a total waste of money.

You can buy v bucks to buy skins and things but you don't have to.

FunSponges · 16/10/2018 21:03

Ah that's good. DS was saying he has to spend money to get the packs, but I'm guessing they aren't a necessity.

You can search around for xbox live subscription don't have to buy from xbox it self. Can get it cheaper elsewhere normally. Can do it for 12months, 6months or monthly.

gamerchick · 16/10/2018 21:07

Why don't you just get him a month or 3 month live gold? It doesn't have to be a year.

Just dont hook a card to the machine in yh first place and you'll not have to worry about spending money on in-game stuff.

Mumof4under10 · 16/10/2018 21:09

We use www.cdkeys.com normally to get it cheaper.

BifsWif · 16/10/2018 21:09

You can earn vbucks in Fortnite, you don’t have to buy them.

FunSponges · 16/10/2018 22:16

I thought the yearly pass worked out cheaper? Isn't it £40?

My credit card is already linked as in order to set up his profile, it wanted parental permission which required adding a credit card and a charge of 50p Hmm. I had no intention of linking my credit card but presumably I can now delete it?

That's good that he can earn the points in Fortnite. He was talking about spending his pocket money on it and I said no.

It does insinuate that you HAVE to add a card but no you don't. 4 Xboxes here and not one with a card added, including my youngest. Yes you can delete it.

You can buy prepaid cards with the code which you then enter. Last time I checked it was hidden in the game part of the dash board but it's been a while since I was on Xbox.

Thanks, card cancelled. Also found how I can set time limits and certain times on DS's profile, he will be pleased Grin.

Your username is perfect Grin
Also where can I find this amazing time limit feature please?

MalcolmTuckerIsMyHERO · 17/10/2018 22:44

We have screen time limits too. You sign in to Microsoft family. We have Hotmail accounts and add the kids. You can then add custom times. Mine have longer at weekends and if we are going out and they have a babysitter they can stay up later

FunSponges · 17/10/2018 23:06

Yep, on your Microsoft account under family. I have added longer for weekends too and it can't go in too early as DS is an early riser and will try a and be up mega early if he thinks he can get on the Xbox. Will go off at 7pm too so can't play it just before he goes to sleep. Grin
