Passport expired and in maiden name

I've been a bit of a plonker. I've been married for 4 years and never changed my passport to my married name as I didn't realise I was meant to. And I was too tight and lazy. I just booked flights in my maiden name when needed. It expired a couple of years ago.

My driving license is due for renewal and it says I need my passport as part of my renewal! Would be useful to have a passport again anyway.

I can't work out how to apply for a new passport as it's not just or a renewal or a name change, but both combined. I was planning on doing it online. Does anyone have any expert knowledge on how to fill in the application? I think I need to admit I'm going to have to make time to get to a post office and do check and send!

Just do it as a renewal. Fill it in with whatever name you want (maiden or married). If you use the married name then send your marriage certificate in as proof of name change. Send in old passport too

I didn’t change my pp for 6 years after marriage,it’s no biggie you just need to enclose your marriage certificate, Online wasn’t an option when I did it, but it really want any hassle

Wasn’t any hassle

Mine was a new passport with name change. I did it through the same day service at our local passport office and had no issues at all.

MakeLemonade · 15/10/2018 21:29

Passport is optional for driving license renewal, I’ve recently done mine and was moving house so couldn’t get my hands on it and you can just skip that page.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 15/10/2018 21:33

Do it online as a renewal, it will ask for you to send supporting documents (marriage certificate), job done. Mine was sent and back within 5 days a few weeks a go.

WoodBurnerBabe · 15/10/2018 21:35

I did a renewal and name change at the same time this year. Came back in 9 days, I just had to send my marriage cert. Also my previous one was lost just to add to the mix!

kaytee87 · 15/10/2018 21:47

I didn't send passport to renew my license.
You don't have to change the name on your passport. If you want to then just put your new name and send your marriage cert. The online application talks you through it, it's really straight forward (surprisingly for a government form).

seven201 · 15/10/2018 21:58

Oh amazing!! Thanks everyone. I started the online application then got the fear that I shouldn't be doing the renewal version.

I'm also going to have another look at driving license renewal page as I thought that I really did have to have a valid passport.

I'm obviously being extra stupid this evening.

It's up to you if you change it or not. Mine is still.on my maiden name and I've been married nearly 5 years. I had to renew 6 months before the wedding to go to America and I'm not paying just to change my name. I just book in my old name if needed. When it's up for renewal I'll change it I expect.

gamerchick · 15/10/2018 22:01

My passport is still in my maiden name. I just needed to bridge the 2 when getting my driving licence.

Am I hell paying again until passport has ran out. Ridiculous you have to pay full whack just to change a name. Just do it as a renewal.

It's still your name, even if you don't use it much anymore.

gamerchick · 15/10/2018 22:02

*with wedding certificate

dementedpixie · 15/10/2018 22:03

You only need a passport if you do an online renewal of your driving licence. If you do it by post you don't need one.

@seven201

To do an online drivers license renewal, you need a valid passport.

To renew using the paper form, you do not need a passport. You an request the paper form on the government site and you will get it in a few days. Fill it in. For a name change, you need proof of that. But it's very easy. I did mine 4 weeks ago and the new one 2 weeks ago.

seven201 · 15/10/2018 22:13

Says you will need a new passport if you change your name. I thought I'd looked at it after I got married and decided I didn't need to bother. It's a bit sneaky the wording!

Super news about the driving license paper application thing. Thanks so much everyone.

seven201 · 15/10/2018 22:16

It says you don't need to change it if you get married but keep your name.

Yes you do need one now it's ran out. It doesn't say do it immediately or face a whipping.

It reminds you that the name on your ticket has to match the name on your passport in not so many words. Which you have been doing.

seven201 · 16/10/2018 06:57

Haha!
