Getting rid of ‘live’ element on iPhone photos

Aridane · 15/10/2018 17:42

A while back a mumsnetter helpfully explained how to edit individual photos on an iPhone to convert them from ‘live’ photos to normal photos (ie not mini videos). And so I did that for a few photos.

She also mentioned an app that would convert all photos from ‘live’ to normal - but I did not take a note of the name of the app and now the thread has gone (it was in Chat).

If anyone can signpost me to the app, that would be much appreciated 🙂 !

(looking to do this to free up some space!)

(plus recipients of ‘live’ photos don’t always seem to be able to open them)

I know how to change individual ones but not about an app so am interested.

However have you turned off the live feature for future photos so you don’t have the faff?

I don't even know how to turn if off for individual photos! I don't have it on most of the time, but now and again it's got clicked ON by accident. Annoying.

Yes, I’ve turned it off permanently for all photos going forward. Annoying that the default setting is for ‘live’ - but not any more!

Yay - I have found an app which has done the nececessary for me and converted all my Live photos to stills!

I am glad I found the apps as, apart from not wanting to have to edit each live photo individually, it turns out that if you just edit the photos yourself the ‘live’ data is just hidden, meaning you’re not actually freeing up any memory.

If anyone is interested, the app is called lean and cost £1.99 to download.
