Help me get DH to the doctor's

I'm trying to get DH to the GP's surgery as he ran 100 miles at the weekend and now his foot/ankle is very swollen and red and he can't walk on it.
He has done a few of these 100 mile runs and nothing like this has happened before.
It's also very red and swollen (for him)
Do you think it's worth me continuing to nag at him.
He might listen to loads of other people in my computer tho.

Help me get DH to the doctor's

the swelling is now past the lines that i drew on at 11.30

Go to the doctor Mr6demanding - if the redness is spreading it could be something like cellulitis (I recently spent a week in hospital with that - it is not to be taken lightly)

Go to the doctor now (or a walk in or the practice nurse) and get it looked at - better than hoping it will go away and spending the night sitting in a and e.
Take your temperature - raised could be a sign of infection.

Anyway - I'm not a doctor, just a person who always leaves thing to late and ends up sicker than I should - so do as I say. not as I do and get it looked at.

As an aside Who TF spends their weekends running 100 miles ??? Are you barking mad ?

MsForestier · 15/10/2018 12:44

Mr6demanding please do go to the doctor and get this checked out, especially since the swelling is moving.

Needs looking at pdq. If he can't weight bear then self care at home won't be any use.

Tell him to stop being a silly billy. He loves running, yes? Ignoring this could stop the running for good.

thurmanmerman · 15/10/2018 12:47

Autumn100? Smile well done!! He should definitely get it checked out if it's getting worse. He must have a couple of rest weeks planned in now so even if something needs doing it surely won't hamper his planned training too much will it?

6demandingchildren · 15/10/2018 12:47

he runs 100 miles every 3 months its a race around the south, i will inform him about cellulitis as he is a bugger to get medical attention
(he walked round with a broken neck for 3 weeks)

OP posts:
6demandingchildren · 15/10/2018 12:48

yes it was the A100 he was very happy with his time

OP posts:
6demandingchildren · 15/10/2018 12:49

he wont be training for a few weeks now, then it will resume for the southdowns 100, im quite worried about it as he has it elevated and when its still their is no pain but he cant weight bare on that foot, the other one is fine

Mr6demandingchildren come on now, doctor's, ASAP. If you really have 6 demanding children you have responsibilities that extend waaaaay beyond your own exemplary (macho) pride. Sometimes you've gotta bite that bullet.

MsForestier · 15/10/2018 12:56

Am happy to take advice on starting running Mr6demanding although I maintain my previous stance upthread on getting attention for that leg.

thurmanmerman · 15/10/2018 13:00

Brilliant. Mr Thurmanmerman had a similar thing after a similar-length race last year. I think they gave him antibiotics but he was fine after a few days of rest/drugs

MsForestier · 15/10/2018 13:02

thurmanmerman that's reassuring. I wonder if it's related to the distance of the run.

thurmanmerman · 15/10/2018 13:09

Lots of people on DH's race had the same problem. I think it was that the repetitive movement on hard ground upset the tendons(??) - it was a trail race like the A100 but the weather had been so dry for ages the ground was rock hard.

6demandingchildren · 15/10/2018 13:14

he has put ice packs on it but nothing has improved it.
he is so bloody stubborn but im now fed up of the loud inbreaths so might solve the problem by suffocating him.

Grin

C'mon, get that leg seen before something worse happens!

6demandingchildren · 15/10/2018 13:20

i just prodded the red bit up his leg and he screamed in pain, he is now willing to get it seen to.
lets hope the gp's surgery has appointments left

SpoonBlender · 15/10/2018 13:21

Hurray for sanity! Good pokin' OP.

MrsKCastle · 15/10/2018 13:23

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

6demandingchildren · 15/10/2018 13:25

flipping doctors is shut for lunch, if i cant get him to the gp i will take him to the walk in clinic, not that he can walk but i will tell him to man up

OP posts:
sugarbum · 15/10/2018 13:25

good luck OP.
I had cellulitis at 40 wks pregnant. No one would see me as the doc said it was a midwife issue and the midwife said go to the docs.
My friend who is a nurse came round, immediately diagnosed it, and took me off to A and E . It was cellulitis.
A and E if you cannot get to the GP. It can be serious.
( and 100 miles. WTF!!)

6demandingchildren · 15/10/2018 13:28

so a&e if i cant get a docs appointment..
yes 100 miles in 24 hours, he is training for the grandslam next year and an ironman, but apart from training he doesnt socialise but he is one of those annoying people who can eat what they like and not put on any weight (i should LTB on that alone)and he has to be doing something at all times.

PhilomenaButterfly · 15/10/2018 13:29

Get to the fucking doctor. If you were my DH, I'd be going nuts at you.

KurriKurri · 15/10/2018 13:44

yes a and e - not to scare you, but if it is cellulitis, it can be really nasty.
Mine was in august - they sent out an ambulance when I phoned 111, just over a week in hospital. Got home and after a week it came back developed into a huge abcess, it all burst, now I have a big open wound on my abdomen, - I'm having daily dressings, been told it will take at least weeks to heal so daily dressings will be a feature for some time, and I have appointment in two weeks with wound management specialists to discuss possible surgery to cut the whole lot out.
they think mine started from ableed from a torn abdo muscle.

So get it seen to as I've been pretty unwell and would hate for anyone else to go through what I have if it is cellulitis and you can catch it early. Sorry don;t mean to over dramatise and hope Mr6's is easily sorted, but don't mess around with this.

britnay · 15/10/2018 13:45

ring 111 and see if you can get an appt locally

Collywobbles1984 · 15/10/2018 13:45

Get him to a and e ASAP, my Mum attempted to go the Easter bank holiday weekend with undiagnosed cellulitis, she made it to Saturday evening and all I'll say is it didn't end well!
