How many products do you put in with a wash?

PatPhelansRedVan · 14/10/2018 14:59

On a Facebook group someone asked if her 5 products she put a photo of was too much. Now others are saying they also put 5 or more different products in the machine.

Am I missing something,? Does EVERYONE do this? I just do a laundry capsule. Unless it's maybe heavily stained/special type of wash etc.

“Whites get powder, white vinegar in lieu of softener, antibacterial liquid (washing nappies) and oxy white. Colours just get powder, vinegar and colour sheet, darks get liquid and vinegar.

I thought that was normal?”

That’s more than I use.
Powder and softener, and that’s it, unless something is badly stained, then I use a stain remover spray on the stained area. I wash similar colours together, and whites on their own so have little need for a colour catcher.

Maria1982 · 14/10/2018 16:15

Washing powder and Calgon for hard water.

If something is massively stained I will do a spot clean before going in. That’s it.

Allergic to fabric softener, makes me itchy!

happypotamus · 14/10/2018 16:16

Just a scooop of powder, occasionally some vanish if things are badly stained. I have never felt the need for fabric conditioner or any of those other products.

Petitepamplemousse · 14/10/2018 16:17

Don’t like fabric softener, I hate how it feels on the fabric. I just use normal Aldi washing liquid and a bit less than they recommend too. Washing smells great.

GummyGoddess · 14/10/2018 16:18

I wouldn't use the oxy white and antibacterial liquid if I wasn't washing nappies. I re use colour sheets until they seem saturated with dye as well.

MrsAmaretto · 14/10/2018 16:19

Liquid pod, some vanish if when the grass/mud stains are bad.

Utterly horrified by the amount of stuff some of you use! I’ve got a sceptic tank and if I used all that it would cause massive problems!

Exochorda · 14/10/2018 16:19

Just one.
Mostly for environmental reasons.
I went back to using laundry powder to save plastic as it's packaged in cardboard. It lasts so much longer than liquid.
Stopped using fabric conditioner years ago.

PoshPenny · 14/10/2018 16:23

Soap powder, fabric condition (not with towels) plus a capful of disinfectant if it's my elderly parents dirty underwear being washed. Astonishing reading how much extra stuff others use.

Camomila · 14/10/2018 16:26

Liquid fairy non bio and a scoop of napisan (DS is only recently in pants)
Sometimes spot treat with vanish spray before hand.

HildaZelda · 14/10/2018 16:27

@MrsAmaretto, what's it being sceptic about? ;)

Just washing powder, fabric conditioner and a colour catcher here.
If something is stained, it gets a spray of vanish, but that's rare.

NannyR · 14/10/2018 16:27

Just a small scoop of lidl formil washing powder, nothing else.

BigRedBoat · 14/10/2018 16:28

It depends what I'm washing, could be just a liquitab and or could be unstoppables, a liquitab, colour catcher, fabric softener, laundry cleanser (dettol), water softener and vanish.

TheWiseWomansFear · 14/10/2018 16:29

A cup of detergent and a colour catcher sheet if I think the colours may run... DP puts softener in with his

LoniceraJaponica · 14/10/2018 16:29

"I went back to using laundry powder to save plastic as it's packaged in cardboard. It lasts so much longer than liquid"

It's much better for the washing machine as well.

MiddlingMum · 14/10/2018 16:33

A scoop of powder from a cardboard box.

I once looked at all the products in Sainsburys, a whole aisle of them, and wondered if I was somehow going wrong by not having a clue what they were for. I don't think DP and I are suffering from lack of hygiene or anything.

Topseyt · 14/10/2018 16:35

Just an Ariel Luquitab, or a small scoop of whatever detergent I happen to be using.

Nothing else as most is a total waste of money.

Topseyt · 14/10/2018 16:36

Liquitab. Autocorrect didn't know what to make of that!!

AlexanderHamilton · 14/10/2018 16:37

Washing powder or liquid
Vanish if needed
Colour catcher

Fabric conditioner brings Dd & dh our in a rash.

Wednesdaypig · 14/10/2018 16:38

Just eco powder if I can get it and some old eco balls for extra agitation. I'm actually shocked at how well these products are marketed. I wonder if most of the 5-products-a-wash people are those that do 3 or 4 loads a day? Aaargh, poor planet

SneakyGremlins · 14/10/2018 16:40

Two laundry tabs (get them in the post) and fabric softener. That's it!

Thinkingofausername1 · 14/10/2018 16:43

Washing Powder
Fabric conditioner
Zo flora

daisypond · 14/10/2018 16:45

Laundry powder. And sometimes water softener powder, like Calgon - we live in a hard water area. I've never used fabric conditioner.

LoniceraJaponica · 14/10/2018 16:49

Why the need for Zoflora?

gamerchick · 14/10/2018 16:57

Fairy liquid here, thats it

Like washing dishes fairy liquid? Confused

Depends on what I'm washing. Hot wash just gets detergent and Dettol washing machine stuff or Epson salts in the drum. Darks get a tiny bit of detergent and Dettol with softener to slow down fading. Whites get soda Chrystals chucked in the drum.

I don't get colour catchers. Just seperate your washing!

moonfacebaby · 14/10/2018 16:57

Washing powder & a colour catcher sheet (only so I don’t have to faff separating colours/whites/darks).

I add in a capful of Zoflora if I’m washing bedsheets (usually from DD2 wetting the bed)
