Can anyone see this ridge going across my nail?

I've got it on both thumb nails, both index fingers and both middle fingers.

I definitely haven't damaged or trapped all those nails at the same time (that would be weird), and I've never had it before. The ridge starts at the bed and is growing out.

I don't usually wear nail varnish, so I don't think that's linked.

Does anyone know why my nails are doing this?

You've had some physiological event that's interrupted your nail bed. It's back on track now, grown normally and pushing the symptom down your nail.

Anything you can think of in terms of medicine (changes), illness, diet, from probably between 1 and 2 months ago?

You can probably buff down the ridge a bit, but only a bit.

Thanks.

I'm really thick. I wore false nails 10 weeks ago. I'm guessing that's what has done it.

I never wear false nails, and I totally forgot.

... you didn't leave them on did you? I almost asked and then thought "No, she'll have thought of that"!

Yes false nails do damage natural nails. Have you thought of trying shellac? It's removed in a safe way so natural nails don't get damaged. Unfortunately many clients don't listen to the advice and damage their nails, by peeling it. Oh well.

I get these often. Usually just on my thumbs and never wear false nails. I've never pin pointed what's causing them

Methe · 14/10/2018 14:43

I get them if I have an un usually heavy/long period. My Dr said they can also be caused by a fever.

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and assumed it was linked to that which is why I didn't think about the false nails. Blush

Thinking about it. I'm not sure the false nails are the cause.

I had those 10 weeks ago and the ridge appeared 2 weeks ago and has grown from the bed to where it is in 2 weeks. I.e it's moving down my nail pretty fast.
I don't believe it would have just stayed still for 8 weeks before that.
