Dh has been offered job near Lincoln - we're in the north. I suspect he will take it and will commute but he's asked me to at least think about relocating. I have no idea where to start looking. Where are the best places to live? We have teenagers. Thanks

Do you want to live in a town or a village?

I hadn't even thought about that - probably a village.

Lincoln is a nice and friendly city. It's small. The traffic links are troublesome at times but set to improve with a new bypass being introduced late next year.

Where he would be working in the city (and where you would potentially work) might be an important thing to consider for commuting.

For example we live 15 miles south but my husband works in the centre and has to allow at least 45 mins for the commute regardless of the time of day. Sometimes it takes 20 mins, on a bad day it can be an hour.

There are excellent schools around the area and plenty for teens - cinema/bowling/shopping/clubs. Depends on how much freedom you are willing to allow them to travel if choosing a village.

We live 6 miles from Lincoln in a lovely little village, the school is amazing, traffic around Lincoln can be bad but it's never been much of an issue for me, we are having to relocate due to my husbands work (going up north) and we've just been up and looked around some houses in areas were considering to get a better idea of the areas and that was really helpful, if you can think about coming to visit and look at areas and what's around to help you make a decision

I’m north of Lincoln. There are LOTS of villages around the city - I particularly like Nettleham. Woodhall Spa is also lovely; it’s more of a small town, but with a village feel, plus it has the wonderful Kinema in the Woods.

Bear in mind that a lot of roads in Lincs are single-carriage A-roads, so if you’ll be making regular trips to see family/friends you might want to focus on a particular area north/south/east/west of the city, rather than have to go through or around it.
