Did you have to sit a test for your Excel skills at job interview?

Or was it enough that you just said you knew it in your cv?

Surely it depends on the job?

I've never sat a test like that at an interview. Years ago when signing up to agencies I did a typing test where they checked accuracy and speed.

Potentially you’ll have a test as part of it. Do you know what type of job role it is? How advanced are your excel skills?

I've been for several jobs that asked for general experience of Microsoft Office applications including excel, but I've never been tested on it.

As a recruiter, I would test if data analysis was a large part of the job.

Depends on the job. At my work (in my team specifically) new job applicants are required to do an excel test. But we are a team of analysts and advanced excel (and VBA) skills are essential.

We sometimes test Excel skills by giving an exercise to complete on a computer and sometimes ask questions in the interview like "How would you ...".

Yes, I did a test that involved looking up data from a different worksheet and appkying formulae to the original worksheet data, according to technical knowledge relevant to the role.

yes, done a few excel tests for jobs - usually very easy. Most people in my institution think you're an excel expert if you can adjust row height.

I was tested for an admin role in a school recently. I had to sort and extract data from excel which was then used in the second part of the test which was to write a letter. So the knowledge was quite basic really, I didn’t have to start anything new or add anything.
