Is it OK to give half a soluble paracetamol to a 4 year old? Only info I can find online is that it is for over 12's.

No. Go buy some calpol

BrokenWing · 13/10/2018 09:23

I wouldn't do this without professional medical advice. Call NHS 111.

You get liquid paracetamol like Calpol for a four year old.

Go and get some infant paracetamol instead

Lolly86 · 13/10/2018 09:27

The soluble paracetamol you have is probably 500mg which is much too high a dose for a four year old. You need some paracetamol suspension like Calpol but shops own brand is just the same. The infant formula 120mg/5ml for a four year old it's usually 7.5-10ml

4 years old is on the border of 180mg and 240mg paracetamol for dosabge on the calpol bottle....

1/2 a soluble paracetamol contains 250mg.

if you are determined to do this do no more than 1/3 tablet, but TBH it tastes odd so doubt they'll take it - so you'll then be left wondering how much they took!

** mg = micrograms

I didn't give my ds it. His dad did (whilst D's was there for the weekend) I didn't know anything about it. But I couldn't find any info about it.

In that case I'd phone 111 for advice and make it clear it was his father rather than you that gave him it.

Paracetamol overdose can be very dangerous. You must seek medical advice.

BrokenWing · 13/10/2018 10:25

Phone 111 and ask for advice.

This was last weekend. His dad has now said he spat it out and didn't ingest it. We have been to the dentist since and they prescribed penicillin.
I don't know if I am being a twat or not.
