Do you prefer a book or kindle?

I’ve decided it’s a real book for me. I am getting back to reading as I spend far too much time browsing on the internet but find that I am more likely to be motivated to pick up an actual book than the kindle.

Book, unless traveling when a Kindle is easier.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/10/2018 09:07

Book all the way, I like to see how far I’ve got and there’s something satisfying about picking one up and finishing it

Kindle for me. I really don't enjoy the holding of a particularly thick book like game of thrones while reading.

But the cost of kindle books puts me off. So now I barely read at all because hold the book puts me off real books and cost puts me off kindleBlush

Inthetropics · 13/10/2018 09:11

Book. I love how it feela on my hands, how it smells and also the fact that it doesn't need ro be recharged and can be passed along.

Inthetropics · 13/10/2018 09:12

feels to

VickieCherry · 13/10/2018 09:12

I much prefer real books. However, Kindle is useful for travelling/commuting, and once I'm actually reading on it I don't mind at all.

DeadBod · 13/10/2018 09:14

Book. I like to see how much I've got left to read and I sometimes like to flick ahead for spoilers.
I gave up on my kindle years ago.

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/10/2018 09:14

I know this isn’t what you asked but I’m currently loving audiobooks!

I’ve bought a few paperbacks in recent years (usually because I have the rest of the series in paparenack form, or I collect the author) and they take me so much more effort to read!

HenryInTheTunnel · 13/10/2018 09:18

Physical books for price. I only really buy from charity shops or borrow from the library. And i do love a big sturdy hardback library book!

Kindle for anything away from home though. Or if there is a specific title i want to read and i can't get it from the library or charity shop. I just can't bring myself to spend £7-8 on one book that i might not even like.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 13/10/2018 09:18

A book. My eyes hurt staring at a screen for a while. I like holding the book and turning the pages and I think as most things are on screens these days, it's nice to have a break from that.

Davros · 13/10/2018 09:18

Kindle for fiction books. I do like other reference-type actual books but for day-to-day reading, kindle is my preference. When I read real fiction books I used to give them away afterwards to avoid piling up. Having said that, despite ruthless culling, we've still got lots of books in the house.

JacquesHammer · 13/10/2018 09:19

I prefer reading an actual book but a Kindle is a godsend for travelling.

I used to have to pack 14 books for a fortnight’s holiday Grin

Davros · 13/10/2018 09:19

I also love trying samples on kindle, looking up words, making notes etc

NannyR · 13/10/2018 09:26

I like both in their own way. Kindle is brilliant for holidays - on a beach holiday I can read a book a day, so having them on a kindle cuts down on weight. I love the light on my paperwhite which means I can read in the dark.
Whilst the kindle is good if I know exactly what I want to read/download, I still prefer browsing in a bookshop, charity shop or library for books and I find I read more widely when I have real books. I also love having packed bookshelves in my sitting room.
Some books just don't really work on kindle - things like cookbooks and travel guides where you want to flick through and write notes.

LastOneDancing · 13/10/2018 09:26

I prefer a Kindle as I usually read in bed.

But I wish i could pass books on, like you can with paperbacks.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 13/10/2018 09:45

Definitely book. I never use a Kindle, I love books

Namelesswonder · 13/10/2018 10:11

Both! Kindle for fiction, brilliant for commute, holidays and reading in bed. Books for non-fiction. I’ve just joined a book club who send you a paperback every month - am loving that!

Overyou · 13/10/2018 10:11

I loved my kindle when I first had it but the novelty wore off.

With my sight problems it has to be a kindle as I can enlarge the text.

Azelma · 13/10/2018 11:06

My Kindle sat gathering dust for many years until I recently read a very long classic book on it. I read the book much more quickly than I would have done if it had been a paperback as it was easier to take with me when out and I could also lay the Kindle flat on the table etc to read whilst eating, which isn't possible with a book.

So my Kindle is now back in use, although I do also love reading "proper" books - the feel of them, the fonts used in different books, the artwork, being able to see how far through a book you are, rather than having the percentage etc.

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/10/2018 11:50

Kindle. I like that my books take up no space at all and also I read my paperwhite in bed.

It's also far far cheaper and easier to get the books you want, no trailing round libraries and charity shops.

I save all my wish list to ereaderiq and buy when they go to 99p, which most of them do. I've hundreds of unread books, all popular ones that I want to read, not self published dross, that cost me 99p each, so now I've loads of books to read and I don't buy them until they are 99p.

MarshaBradyo · 13/10/2018 11:51

Kindle app on my phone
Especially now with a young baby easier to read when she’s asleep on me

AnotherPidgey · 13/10/2018 12:07

Generally real books. Kindle for holidays. I feel lost in a kindle as I don't get much sense of scale from it.

SpoonBlender · 13/10/2018 12:09

I prefer books, but I've run out of space only a year after shelving out an entire room. I'd been reading on my phone for years, and officially converted to Kindle as a new year's resolution. It's been excellent. I got a paperwhite, and keep it in my work bag. Having the Kindle app on the phone and books synced is wonderful for standing in line, going to the loo, being at the gym and whatnot.
