I would team with a metallic....silver/pewter

Asteria36 · 13/10/2018 01:35

Beautiful dress. I'd keep it really simple with very classic black closed toe shoes and a little black clutch. Nothing too fussy so the dress isn't overwhelmed. I wore a very similar dress with my hair up in a slightly messy chignon and a long black pearl necklace looped up into wide a choker with a bit of skinny velvet ribbon and matching earrings. I had a huge charcoal cashmere wrap to arrive at the party (Perth Highland Ball).

Ooosh! That is one stunning dress.

I'm rubbish at accessorising but wow that dress is amazing.

Just so you've got the full range of options...I'd go with red shoes and a.metallic clutch.
It's a beautiful dress.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 13/10/2018 02:23

Definitely silver. Would look fab.

Bronze would look good too.

MarcieBluebell · 13/10/2018 02:29

Very Julia Roberts. What's the event?

That dress looks amazing! I’d wear it with silver or gold sandals and a clutch to match! 💕

LadyLaSnack · 13/10/2018 05:40

Nude shoes would work too.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 13/10/2018 06:40

Yep, I agree, Metallics will work best with this. Guessing it's an evening event with that dress. A nice pale gold would work well.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 13/10/2018 07:14

Gold. Something subtle. Or black.

Hellywelly10 · 13/10/2018 07:17

2nd nude.

3WildOnes · 13/10/2018 07:38

Metallics. Where is the dress from? I love it.

TheVonTrappFamilySwingers · 13/10/2018 07:39

Absolutely not not not black. Red and black are really terrible together.

Nude shoes work well or metallics as pp have said.

FiveStoryFire · 13/10/2018 07:42

I think leopard print looks great with red. If you're feeling bold.

Justgivemeasoddingname · 13/10/2018 23:13

Ah ha ha ha!!! So I can go black, silver, nude, gold, bronze, metallic, and absolutely not black Grin this is helpful Grin
Thank you all, and for the lovely comments.
I got the dress from an eBay shop for £37. There are various sizes available if anyone is interested! It is originally from Quiz and was priced £65 i think! Here's a link rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F201921868546

Dh and I are going to an Oscars themed 40th birthday party. Dh will wear his kilt. The birthday girl is among other things a drama school teacher and theatre actress- this party will be the real deal! I'm planning to have BIG hair and I really do not have BIG hair so this is a challenge!!!! Make up too. Any advice is welcome!!

Don't wear black shoes.

Pop of colour like a royal blue clutch and silver sandles.

Butterflycookie · 14/10/2018 00:59

Dress is really pretty Smile. You need a diamond/ruby necklace to go with it just like in the movie Wink

Proofer · 14/10/2018 01:07

I'd go with nude. It's such an elegant, classy dress that anything 'out there' would ruin it imo.

moredoll · 14/10/2018 02:56

Maybe pick one, or two, of the colours from the kilt.
