DD has flown into Manchester from Dublin tonight and Northern Rail have cancelled the last train from the airport to our house. After much hunting around the station for a member of staff, she was sent to Piccadilly to get a taxi.

They have now put the other passengers in taxis but refusing to get her one because she changed station. She changed station because they told her to change station to get a taxi. She is arguing down the phone through a chain of about five people. For fucks sake, she is a young woman on Manchester station at 12.40. They cancelled her train at 10.10. Why don't they just stop being dicks and put her in a cab?

If it were my DD I would tell her to get a taxi and I would pay it for her if she hadn't any money. Northern should help, but they are not. It's late and I wouldn't want my DD hanging about any longer over a principal. Home safe would always be my priority.

All well and good if you've got the spare cash, busc OP can you afford to do that, in which case do. If not I would take to Twitter.

Uber charge you after the journey to a card. If you are really stuck for cash you can use them.

How far from the station are you?

I was just about to set out and get her (an hour's drive) but they have got her a cab now, but only part of the way, to our local big town, not our village because she had to change trains. That can't be right can it, her ticket was to our village?

Anyway, she has negotiated with taxi driver to bring her all the way, (normally £15 from town) and she will get a receipt and try to claim it back tomorrow.

I am pretty shocked by how crap they've been though: DD is 22 and pretty streetwise and has travelled alone all over the world, but she looks about 16. Obviously northern rail didn't give a monkeys.u
