Haven't been to Fuengirola, but we like Benalmadena. And Benalmadena Pueblo (up the hill) is a gorgeous, traditional Spanish village with whitewashed houses etc.

AgentProvocateur · 12/10/2018 21:08

Fuengirola itself is pretty nasty, but there are nice resorts close by.

We're going to Benalmadena in a week's time, so I'll let you know! Family of four, 2 little boys.

Land0r · 12/10/2018 21:23

ShackUp Where are you staying in Benalmadena?

Gohackyourself · 12/10/2018 21:25

Stayed in hotel in belamadena , attached to a water park.
Was very large pleasant hotel and would go again.
Visited fungeurola for market, thought was a bit low class/scruffy/!!

happydaysrhere · 12/10/2018 21:27

Benalmadena is lovely , night life great . Marina is so nice lots of boat trips . Nice beach

bettybyebye · 12/10/2018 21:29

We went to Fuengirola in may and I was most underwhelmed! It wasn’t our choice of destination (was a family group holiday). Hardly any decent restaurants, the beach was pretty rubbish and we had to get taxis everywhere - don’t do it!

FlamingJuno · 12/10/2018 21:30

Fuengirola is horrible. Benalmadena is much nicer.

isseywithcats · 12/10/2018 21:35

Our family has had a holiday home in Benalmadena for over 30 years, Benalmadena is perfect for families, lovely beaches, plenty of family friendly activities in the evening etc.

We stay up in Arroyo, not far from the train station, there are lots of lovely little bars and restaurants that aren’t typically English IYSWIM. Agree with PP’s that the Pueblo is lovely, plenty of great places to eat.

Would definitely recommend a trip to Colomares Castle and also up to Mijas (another beautiful whitewashed village) but please don’t go on the donkeys!

Also would recommend getting a little booklet called the Pocket Rocket from Rubens Money Exchange, either near the Narina or Windmill Roundabout. It has all the market days, bus timetables, money off vouchers etc.

Can’t tnink of anything else off the top of my head just now, but feel free to ask and Ill answer as best I can! Enjoy, it’s a great place Smile

ShackUp Really close to the Sahara Sunset (haven't stayed there but know where it is) is Parque de la Paloma which your boys may enjoy. A great adventure play area and plenty of green space, but also parrots, chickens, rabbits etc roaming free and turtles in the lake.

youarenotkiddingme · 13/10/2018 17:11

Have stayed in both. Actually it was benalmadena but not the port bit and torreblanca so not the busy bit of feungirola!

There I a train that goes up and down the coast frequently and is cheap so wherever you stay you can get to things easily.

ShackUp · 13/10/2018 18:03

@Land0r yes, I was delighted that the hotel is next to the rabbit park! The boys will love it! 🐰

Land0r · 13/10/2018 19:15

The park is manmade I think, but really lovely. The boys may also like the aquarium in the marina - we had one very wet afternoon there this April (for the first time, we often go in April) and spent it at the aquarium.
