My husband is godfather soon for a christening and I can’t think how much to spend- pre kids we gave £100 cheque but times are a bit harder now! Not sure if silver money box type thing is still the done thing or if they’ll end up with 30 of them- thank you x

something like this maybe?

Wendalicious · 12/10/2018 17:21

That’s lovely thank you but the godchild will be 12 months so a little old for the clothes x

My DS’s godfather gave him a lovely wooden train. My DM and DB gave him a bottle of something nice to save for his 21st. There are lovely wooden crosses for kids available on Amazon. My DD was given one for her baptism. Otherwise a good kids book of bible stories is both appropriate and not too costly!

We have given girls pearl crosses and boys pearl cuff links with a little card with the parable of the pearl in them.....

Something like a Wooden Noah's Ark or even a Nativity set ?

Godfather traditionally would get something religious - a Children's book of Bible Stories type thing.

You can get some beautiful children’s bibles. I’ll try and find the link for the one I bought my God children if you’re interested?

I got my godson some limited edition coins from the year of his birth from the Royal Mint website.

I liked the idea of first edition books too but a lot of them were out of my price range!

flowerycurtain · 12/10/2018 17:39

I've done:
Port
Jewellery
Classic book sets.

All alongside a Desmond tutu children's book I really like.

TillyVonMilly · 12/10/2018 18:45

I’ve done
Royal Mint coin collection from year of birth
Gold sovereign coin
Silver Picnic bubbler, engraved, three separate christenings as it was so well received. Smile

UnsympathetiCow · 12/10/2018 19:24

I've done coin from year of birth and Complete Works of Shakespeare.
DH gave an equivalently impressive looking but sciency book (discoveries or scientists, can't remember which) to his goddaughter.
We're not religious if you hadn't guessed but the parents refused our offer to stand down for someone more suitable!

Wooden Noah’s Ark - you can get personalised ones from notonthehighstreet.

Children’s Bible or book of Bible stories.

Wendalicious · 12/10/2018 20:42

Great ideas thank you all x

It's DH's cousin's LG christening this weekend and we have bought the Beatrix Potter box set of books.
Previously when were godparents to our niece, we bought a christening memory box and named a star after her (and her twin brother, who was also getting christened)
