I solemnly swear I am up to no good?

I mean it's pretty specific, isn't it?

Any other HP questions you'd like to know the answers too? We can share our theories too.
NB: going through a depressive episode so talking about one of my teenage passions adult passions.

OP posts:

@MrsBartlettforthewin I know so many questions!!

Socksandshoes · 13/10/2018 11:10

harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Maledictus This is interesting and explains the whole snake woman thing.

I think that there is a line in D.H that says that the cottage is now visible as the subjects of the secret are dead.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/10/2018 11:16

I'm taking issue with the plural being 'maledictuses' when it's clearly rooted in Latin. I'm pretty sure we have ', not 'animaguses'.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/10/2018 11:16

Oops, I missed a word there.

...'animagi', not 'animaguses'.

MinecraftHolmes · 13/10/2018 11:21

Also on the Maledictus front - surely it should be Maledicta for the singular, as only women can be one, based on the Latin?

Namechangedspecifically · 13/10/2018 11:38

My theory is Nagini is Draco’s wife’s grandmother.

spoiler

I’m Cursed Child Draco’s wife dies of a blood curse that can skip a generation.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/10/2018 11:42

I’m sorry you are low OP. Harry is such escapism. I got into HP fan fiction last year and loved some of it

Socksandshoes · 13/10/2018 11:45

Namechangedspecifically

Astoria Malfoy. Yes, she was from the Greengrass family. I wonder whether there will be a hint towards it that you wouldn’t recognise without knowing the full details.

NewYoiker · 13/10/2018 11:57

I'm bloody loving this thread!! Harry Potter is true escapism! I've had a really rubbish time lately and treated myself to an audible subscription and bought them all!

Somethings I thought/ realised..

Neville's family didn't notice he was magical for ages and he was dropped out of a window in favour of lemon meringue pie but his magic improved significantly after he go his own wand as he was using his dads.. the wand chooses the wizard

Where do witches give birth? tonks

Do magical children do home school or go to a muggle primary school?

Namechangedspecifically · 13/10/2018 11:58

Although I’ve heard it touted around that she could be snapes grandmother.

Namechangedspecifically · 13/10/2018 11:59

Magical children are taught at home before going to Hogwarts.

Socksandshoes · 13/10/2018 11:59

I’ve definately read something about them being home schooled.

sashh · 13/10/2018 12:09

WHy did Hermione fix Harry's glasses and not his eye sight (no other student wears glasses) and not get into trouble with the ministry for magic?

kaytee87 · 13/10/2018 12:12

@sashh the 'trace' can only detect a location rather than an individual so as there were adults on the train at the time she wouldn't have been caught.
I assume fixing eyesight is very complicated 'healer' magic and not learned at school.
Mrs mcgonagle wears glasses. So does dumbledore

kaytee87 · 13/10/2018 12:13

I know they're not students but I assume fixing eyesight is very complicated or not possible given other witches and wizards wear glasses

kaytee87 · 13/10/2018 12:15

Witches and wizards are home schooled before hogwarts. As small children they can't control their magic so it would be too risky sending them to a muggle school

NewYoiker · 13/10/2018 12:19

When hermione waterproofs Harry's glasses in POA is that not cheating? Or is it okay? 😂

AynRandTheObjectivist · 13/10/2018 12:21

I don't see how that's cheating. It's not altering his skill or ability, it's adapting his clothing. He's then on the same level as everyone else who could see fine already.

What I don't understand is why she didn't do it from the very beginning of the match.

NewYoiker · 13/10/2018 12:29

@AynRandTheObjectivist yes!

Socksandshoes · 13/10/2018 12:31

I just don’t think it occurred to her before she did it.

AynRandTheObjectivist · 13/10/2018 12:34

:D

JKR has said in interviews that the difficulty in writing magic stories isn't working out what magic can do, it's figuring out what it can't. You need limits in place to magical abilities or else there can't be any plot - magic resolves all.

I think it's inevitable that there will be some plot holes but I don't think they matter. The stories are so good, so well written, and the characters so full and wonderful. Some plot holes are so bad they ruin the narrative, but I don't think that's the case here.

But conversations like this aren't really about picking HP apart. They come from loving the stories so much.

NewYoiker · 13/10/2018 12:42

I could talk about Harry Potter for hours Blush

NoParticularPattern · 13/10/2018 12:51

Sorry world war three erupted here! I think we’ve calmed down now 😂

I could also talk HP for days. I still don’t understand the Secret Keeper thing!! It seems like it a very confusing bit of magic! Especially the part where even the person whose secret it was in the first place wouldn’t be able to repeat it once the charm has imbedded!! Makes it sound like a weird body piercing!

I’m fascinated by this Nagini thing- I’m off to read about that now whilst the baby sleeps!!

NewYoiker · 13/10/2018 12:59

Can I just say one more thing about Harry Potter?

Book Ginny is 10000000% better than film Ginny... film Ginny annoys me so much!!! She's meant to be a strong character
