Marinating fish

Posting here for traffic. I'm looking at a marinated fish recipe that says put the fish in the marinade for a MAXIMUM of one hour. Why would this be and will I kill my household if I marinate it for longer??? I was planning to make it tomorrow noon-ish, go out for the afternoon and cook it when I got back. It's just white fish (monkfish or, in my rendering, coley) and the marinade is herbs, spices, lime and yoghurt.

The citrus in the marinade will cook the fish. Google ceviche to see what I mean. If you leave the marinade for longer, you'll ruin the fish.

Sorry, should've said, start the cooking process. Either way don't leave the marinade on for longer than it says.

It'll disintegrate or go mushy.

Make the marinade in advance but keep it separately. Pour it on when you want to cook it. Fish will still absorb the flavour and be tasty.

Bollocks, yes, good point about the citrus.

I could make it in advance, that's a good idea. I should be home in time to marinate it for 45 minutes or so.
