FIL arguing with DS

FIL is immature. People tiptoe around him because he has a quick temper. Recently FIL seems to have decided DS needs shaming, so he’ll try to start an argument.

For instance, FIL will announce out of the blue that the music DS is listening to is “rubbish”. I’ve told DS not to rise to it but, he’s 12, sometimes he does. It’s as if FIL sees a young man and wants a fight

DH is not on the scene. MIL just keeps out of the way. I don’t want to go and see them anymore because chances are it’ll end in a fight. FIL used to hit DH when he was DS’s age, I don’t want that to happen to my son.

It’s only me and DS, I feel like just moving away and not telling them where we are.

Any chance you can get MIL onside and explain to her that if he doesn't rein it in it would be a shame for her to have no contact with you and your DS because FIL is acting the way he is?

No chance. She never stands up to FIL.

Just suspend visits for now. When they text just tell them ds isn't benefiting from seeing them atm so he won't be.

Yes thanks @April. I’ve had it I really have. I have no reason to be in the country never mind in their town anymore. I don’t know what I’m doing here. Should move before school becomes an issue.

He sounds a real twat and quite honestly your MIL deserves what she gets if she won't stand up for your son.

Don't let that man anywhere near your son.
