Telephone dr appointment

I rang my surgery this morning to make a appointment to have my coil taken out. The receptionist said I needed to have a telephone appointment with the doctor first. I didn't really expect this, has any of you had a telephone appointment for this reason. Not sure what to expect from the phone call. Kind of hoping the dr is not going to try and put me off getting the coil took out?

It'll just be a triage system to make sure that urgent problems are seen quickly and more routine things are booked accordingly. They can't talk you out of anything. It's your decision.

Hi.. telephone appointments are usually to filter out who actually needs to attend the GP practice. As some people are given the advice they need over the phone, freeing up appointments which would of been wasted otherwise. Gp will ask you your problem and once you explain he will book you in to see the nurse etc for coil removal.

I had to have a chat by phone with the Dr about coil insertion before they would book an appointment. She got my notes on screen, saw I'd had 4 before and said Yes thats fine, I'll pass you through to reception and you can book the appointment. Took less than 30 seconds!!

Okay thank you, I had a face to face appointment before I got the coil in. My telephone app is not until the 22nd so I hope it doesn't take long after that to have the coil removed

Could you go a family planning centre?

SelinaMyers · 11/10/2018 15:18

OP- does your surgery require you to explain to the receptionist why you have called? Ours does which I’m guessing stands in for the on phone appointment

iLoveSpaDays · 11/10/2018 15:23

@3rdrockfromthesun when I rang my gp I asked for a appointment for the family centre which is in the surgery

@SelinaMyers sometimes they ask when a appointment is for and sometimes they don't. The last time I asked for a app in the family centre they didn't ask what I needed it for.
