Writing our will - what did you bequeath/inherit?

DH and I are writing our will. The plan is mostly everything goes to DS, or in trust for his upbringing.

We can't really think of anything specific to leave to anyone other than my Christmas decorations to grinch-like DSis so wondered what anyone else would bequeath or had inherited as a bequest?

Our wills don't mention any specific items, I don't own any heirloom worthy items!

The only thing I've ever inherited other than money was a watch from my great aunt (who was a spinster). I wore it on my wedding day as my 'something old'.

Nothing. All to children equally.

I've never inherited anything either.

Engagement ring?

Sometimes the most precious things aren't the most valuable. I have my grandmothers brownie tray. I love it, although I never use it. It was the only thing I wanted after she died, although obviously it wasn't left to me in her will.

My wedding, engagement and eternity rings to ds (to do what he wants with) and all of my other jewellery which is mostly costume and not worth very much to our two granddaughters. Small cash bequest to friend.

I struggle with this.

We don’t have children, and that’s not going to change. DH is an only child, with no relatives other than distant cousins. I’m the youngest in my family by a long shot and all my siblings are significantly older than me, to the extent that my nieces and nephews are pretty much the same age as me, so they’re not necessarily going to outlive me. I have one niece who’s a bit younger than me, and has complicated additional needs so I had always planned to leave everything to her for her care but, sadly, her life expectancy may not be that long.

We have a lot of property and shares etc so a lot to leave.

Have no idea what’s going to happen to it all. Need to consider living my days out on a cruise ship Grin

I love the idea of leaving random gifts in my will! When I get round to writing one, I'm going to leave my watch and my teddy!
