"Goady" not a word in Scrabble?

So 'goad' is a word, but 'goady' is not. Did we Mumsetters make it up?

Surely not?!

I rather like this one www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/acref/9780199829941.001.0001/acref-9780199829941-e-20145 about swollen testicles!

Or this one awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Goady about a Storm of Swords.

They both sound a load of bollocks though Grin

Words don't just hatch out of eggs laid by the dictionary bird. They get invented by accident or by porpoise and if they're useful and good they'll get official.

Don't be such a smurglewhiffer. (Person afraid of changes to the language. Copywrite Goldenbug 2018)

Lol (also not a word in Scrabble). I should be more clear. . . My Scrabble app. It's a good word to me. Use it all the time in my head Wink It's the Collins dictionary that the app uses, so no love for 'goady'. I could have had loads more points!!!

I loved learning that Roald Dahl's lexicon came from his wife whose vocabulary was altered after her stroke. Out of sadness, much joy!

FFS the dolphins are infiltrating our language now Grin

Heuschrecke · 10/10/2018 18:10

Ah, Goldenbug, how do your pronounce porpoise though?! Por-puss or por-poyze?

Love your smurglewhiffer © Grin

kateemo · 10/10/2018 18:12

Am forgetting to tag you both in my replies. Thank you @Heuschrecke and @whiskeysourpuss! This app works better than the Scrabble one.

Heuschrecke · 10/10/2018 18:17

No need to tag really, but kind of you to do so!

Back to dolphins, I used to have a lovely Australian colleague - we both loved dolphins - so used to talk to each other in Dolphinese. If verbal, we eee eee eeked to each other, if by email .... well, it was the same 🐬 Blush

Those alternate definitions of 'goady' aren't getting on with my headspace Grin. Porpoises. Beautiful but terrifying because they are cleverer than we are. Also, they hump swimmers (why do I know this?)

I expect you watch too many David Attenborough documentaries?!

KindergartenKop · 10/10/2018 20:37

Ah it's because goady is a shortened version of goadyfucker. Hth.

kateemo · 10/10/2018 21:26

@KindergartenKop GrinThat word would be worth thousands of points!

You need a different version of scrabble obviously
