Hi guys. What do people mean they are worried the will be outed in a thread? Is it tha people they know irl will see it?

OP posts:

Yes!

dinosaurkisses · 10/10/2018 11:21

Yes.

And the risk of someone doing a search on their username and finding other posts which might contain private info.

CaptSkippy · 10/10/2018 11:55

And the death threats that will likely follow.

lynmilne65 · 10/10/2018 12:19

Who even cares ?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 10/10/2018 12:22

Seriously Lynmilne65? With all the personal threads people have, you really can’t see why someone would care if they were outed?!

iklboo · 10/10/2018 12:23

Well if I'm coming on here to have a personal rant about work or ask for advice about something I'm not comfortable asking friends / family about I don't want 'outing'.

stellabird · 10/10/2018 12:29

I do find it odd when people say they can't mention what their job is, because it could out them. Really ? Seems like a big stretch to me.

I work in criminal law. I certainly don't want to be outed.

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 12:42

I got outed in the 5 big UK newspapers and ones all over the world.

A certain post I made about someone locally (not in UK) actually made it back to them because of it. Blush

We're actually friends now which is bizarre and funny.

But not great that I had a mad panic before Mumsnet could delete all my other posts under that name. Luckily I name change every now and then.
