I've got a horrendous cold (aches, pains, feel hot then cold, really sore throat, the usual.) I went to work yesterday and instantly regretted it, so today I phoned in sick. My manager answers the phone and tells me I need to go to the doctor's (and lays in on thick about my recent absences, I was off for a week in August/September because I was ill!) What the fuck? What are they going to do? Tell me exactly what I already know? Stay in bed, drink plenty of fluids, take paracetamol... I don't want to get out of bed unless I really have to, it takes me half an hour to walk up to where my doctor's surgery is!

Call the boss back, say you phones the GP and they told you not to come in

Popcornandbuttons · 09/10/2018 09:01

Or say you tried to get an appointment but they didn't have any...very realistic for most GP surgeries!

And feel better soon x

Well I phoned back and said I'd been to the doctor's. "Why don't you have a flu jab?" Because they won't work for colds. "Oh, I'll ask the pharmacist." Nevermind that NHS guidelines state they don't work for colds (because they're not the same thing!) Knowledge of science is a most useful thing, shame some people seem utterly clueless.
