Is it possible to read texts on a Garmin watch?

Dh has been receiving messages solidly for about half an hour, every night before he goes to bed. I usually go up first and then I’ll lie in bed reading and seeing ‘new message from *Merlin’ pop up every couple of minutes for the time he’s in the bathroom.

*Merlin not actual name but a similarly unique name of a guy he works with who he’s not close to at all. I strongly suspect it’s a woman who he’s saved under this guys name.

I have no way of checking his phone as I don’t know the password but he’s very relaxed about leaving his watch about. I know he uses it as an email alert but he very rarely actually texts so there’s a good chance he’s actually unaware it’s buzzing from texts.

Yes you can, I have a basic Garmin watch and you can read them. Can't reply though.

Sorry OP it doesn't sound good Thanks

Thanks Elfin, do you know how? I haven’t touched the watch at all as yet, just watched the messages pop up. If I read the messages will it show as read on his phone? I’m assuming if they are anything suspicious he’d immediately delete them so I guess I’ll have to read them as soon as they come through.

What sort of Garmin? I just press the top right hand button to read them but I have quite a basic square face watch.

I’m not sure tbh elfin. I was trying to find the model last night but I couldn’t seem to find the exact one, it’s a couple of years old so may not be around so much anymore. Bloody git.

Is it round or square? That should narrow it down.

ScrambledSmegs · 08/10/2018 20:03

Top right button on my oldish Forerunner 235. Scroll through using the up/down arrow buttons.

Sorry OP. I hope it's not what you think it is.

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 08/10/2018 21:02

It’s round and has two buttons on either side. All I can think is that maybe he’s included in some group message and it just comes up as this guys name as he’s first alphabetically. Clutching at straws I know!

Annoyingly dh is away with work until Friday. I’m quite tempted to encourage him to have a drink when he gets back. Then he’ll almost certainly sleep soundly enough for me to be able to put his thumb on his phone to unlock it without waking him up.

I know that there almost certainly isn’t any other explanation but I’m struggling to believe it. It seems so unlikely and so far from everything I know about him.

In that case it will be the top right button you want, I imagine.

I would read them. If he's not clever enough to realise they go to his Garmin, he won't be clever enough to realise that you've read them on there, IMO.

ScrambledSmegs · 08/10/2018 21:46

If he's away surely surely the messages won't be coming up on his Garmin? Mine is linked via Bluetooth, so messages only come through on the watch when it's near enough to my phone.

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 08/10/2018 21:48

No, his watch isn’t here atm. It was buzzing every night for the last few nights but I can’t check it now as he’s away. Which is bloody infuriating.

Too right to read a message when it's on the screen. Use the bottom left arrow keys to scroll up to message notifications if you want to bring up all the unread ones on the screen. Group message notifications show up with the name of the person who sent them, not just the first name in the group. HTH and hope it's nothing

adviceonthepox · 08/10/2018 21:53

Are you sure he is away with work?

EscapeToTheMoon · 08/10/2018 22:07

On my 220 I can’t but my friend has a 235 and she can.

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 08/10/2018 22:19

He’s definitely away with work - he works away two weeks a month. I have no idea what he’s up to or who he’s with while he’s away though. It’s going to be a long week.
