Moving house - when do I start changing our address?

Theres just so so many companies and providers to update!

I am a week away from exchange, with completion a week later.

Do I wait til exchange? Seems most sensible but leaves hardly any time!

After completion. set up a redirection service to start on the day of competing (when this is certain)

Completing.

Not competing!

Do it once you've moved in. You won't get any fines

Things like driving licence, bank, utilities should be done as soon as you move. You can do them online. You could start a redirection service with the post office as soon as you know what the moving date is. You can do that for 6 months or longer iirc.

Don't do anything until you've Exchanged Contracts. After all, and I hope this doesn't happen to you, but if it all falls through at the last minute then you're setting yourself up for a lot of hassle.

Once you've Exchanged you can start to let various companies know about your new address.

But, as PPs have said, you'll have a period of grace to get this sorted.

Set up a redirection on you mail and then do rest once you have moved,
.

After you've moved. We set up a 6 month redirection, which we extended to a year. Things have been known to go wrong at the last minute. The people who bought our house had lost a previous house just before completion.

DreamingofSunshine · 08/10/2018 18:35

Wait until exchange. I did it the day before we were due to exchange then it fell through and my post went to that address.

Fill in your six month redirect now, trigger it at exchange. It takes a few days so that week is barely enough.

straight After exchange - tell car insurers, start house insurance, tell council, speak to utility companies.

Straight after move - change driving licenses and car v5. Then start working through everything else. Keep a list.
